I have a Buff Orpington who seems stressed out. She used to be the leader of our small flock, seemed happy and healthy, and laid an egg almost every day for me.
About a year ago, one of our broodys hatched a rooster who we decided to keep (he is our only rooster). Since he has readjusted...
I just went in to check on her and she is still sitting on one egg from the original hatch, and in the meantime has collected 3 new eggs! Up until hatch day I had removed any new eggs from her, so these must be very new. Should I take them from her, or let her keep them w the best? Will this...
I had two coop broodys hatch out 3 chicks (for the first time) on Wednesday! They hatched much earlier than I expected, and before I could move the broodys out of the nesting boxes. Should I even bother to move them now, with the little chicks running around, or let them figure things out...
This is Blue Roo, our resident rooster who is almost exactly a year old. We’ve had him since he was a day old chick, and he hatched from a blue or green egg (not sure which). Does anyone have any ideas as to what breed he might be? I can try to take better photos later but this is what I have...
One of them is turning out to be quite dark and mixed looking and I’m pretty sure she’s not a Welsummer now. We have a few rainy days ahead so they won’t be out as much but when we get some sunny weather I will update with photos. The other I am still not sure.
Do these look like pure Welsummers, or mixed? I picked up 3 chicks from my local feed store who told me two of them were Olive Eggers from Ideal Poultry. They look like Welsummers to me, but Ideal said their Olive Eggers are a mix between Easter Eggers and either Welsummers or Barnevelders...
Update: This chick is now almost 10 weeks! Here are some updated pictures. Still no crowing but wow that comb looks big!
UPDATE: this chick is now almost 10 weeks! Here are some updated photos. No crowing, but wow that comb looks big to me! Still looking like a roo to anyone? Any...
Good observation - the other distinguishing feature of this chick is that he/she has feathered feet. Also had a brown streak like a mask across the eyes at hatching which is mostly gone now
Any idea what breed/gender this 7 week old is? I see puffy cheeks and a lot of redness going on making me think part ameraucauna roo. Any other guesses? I’m referring to the grey chick in the photos.
thanks in advance!
We hatched this baby chick from some fertilized eggs a local ranch had available. They said that they are possibly olive egged (egg was green) but definitely rare breeds. I’m curious what breed he/she might be and if it’s a roo - it’s comb looks pretty big to me...it’s almost 5 weeks old
These sweet babies just hatched this morning and I’m trying to identify them. They came from eggs that were mixed with olive Egger s, cream legbars, and a few other colored eggs (one dark brown and speckled) but no definite breed description except that they were rare colored eggs. Anyone have...
Golden comets are one of my favorite breeds so far too. We’ve had Easter Eggers, barred rocks, white leghorn, black australourpe, sapphire Plymouth rocks, and now have wel summer, Barnevelder, and orpingtons. The comet so far has been the friendliest!! She runs up to us anytime she sees us...
Please tell me about your Easter Eggers and their laying habits! Specifically,
1) What color egg and how often do they lay?
2) At what age did they come into lay? How old are your EEs now?
3) Where did you get your Easter Egger?
I know responses will vary w EEs being a mixed breed, but I’m...
