That’s left over waterproof flooring underlayment. Since they like to spray poop (learned from previous seasons) decided to go up the walls a bit lol they seem to also karate chop their water while drinking?
The $50 pen this year saved so much time and mess. Thank you @Strawberry74 !
This is...
Just put it up! Thanks for the idea
This thing is huge! I put it out in a cabin we have in the yard. That way they can get used to colder weather without the actual weather getting to them. Just needs puppy pads and shavings.
You’re welcome.
I only check mine now because I heard one peeping one day, I was extremely excited for it to hatch. First or second one from my female from about 6 years ago. I heard it the next day. Kept waiting. Then its peeps started to get frantic. Then they started to fade and were ever...
If you haven’t seen it move or heard any peeps, I would open the cooler end VERY carefully and take a peek inside. (This is my personal preference rather than waiting to see if they die or not) At those temps, the chicks should be hatching on day 49 to day 51. Some could say the humidity is kind...
lol, ok ok. I’ll get out of bed and hold him shortly.
Emus are surprisingly easy to vent sex. But it has to be done within the first couple of days after hatch. Their “parts” kind of retract a little and make it much harder after day three. The males have a little doohickey and the female does...
Put something small that makes a sort of antenna on top of the egg. You will see the movement SO much easier. Anyone that has hatched or attempted to hatch emus knows the feeling of thinking you saw it move but aren’t sure lol then you start thinking you’re crazy.
I just had the play pen...
I liked that pop up playpen idea so much that I just bought one lol not really feeling the whole building a pen thing right now.
2 males and 2 females. The standard male and white female have paired up (100% blonde chicks). The blonde male and standard female have paired up (50% blonde/50%...
Do you have everything ready for chicks? I don’t lol It’s officially dirt bike racing season, so it’ll be a last minute dash to set up pens on Saturday. Then race Sunday morning.
I tested for wiggles on the very first two eggs that were set on 1/11. They’re both alive 😳 this will be the first...
One made it to hatch and survived a few days. The rest didn’t make it to hatch. Very weird since 18 hatched the season before and 31 the season before that.
So far this year seems much more “normal” for the number of eggs laid.
You know… I’m not quite sure 😂 haven’t done the math yet. Mine normally hatch between 49 and 51 days. 97.5f and 43% humidity.
Looks like 1st week of March will be the first chicks if they survive. I never count them until they’re alive for 5 days! The last two seasons not a single chick...
