My hens on on a run...... 10 days 100% production from 6 hens. Is this normal? Should I expect this on a regular basis? I purchased several breeds and only 1 hen was known for daily production. So I am pleasantly surprised. I am new to having chickens (obviously) and purchased these chicks last...
8 days in a row with 6 eggs per day! I found the missing one from Saturday hidden in a secret spot with a fresh one today! That particular hen is the only one who produces a green-blue egg and was the only one I thought didn't lay on Saturday. Have any of you ever had a chicken lay two eggs in a...
yesterday made two days in a row of getting five eggs out of six hens for the first time! What made it even cooler was that I knew the day before that I was getting five the next day based on how many girls were "squatting" for me in the afternoon. If this ends up proving true then I will get...
The last week I have had 3 or 4 everyday now! My little Astralorp continues to lay one per day first thing in the morning. With six hens, I wonder when I will have 6 eggs in one day for the first time? I also do not think all 6 of them are laying yet. Everyday is exciting to go see what I can find.
I have been interested for a couple decades but never had the place to raise them. We were finally able to get started this last September with our 7 year old.
We started with 3 Buff Orpingtons, 2 Blue Sapphires, 1 Cream Legbar, and 1 Black Astralorp.
We lost 1 of the Blues already so we are...
German..... we have that in common. Well I am new to chickens and training puppies so I have a lot to learn. We have been looking at training options and have not yet settled on one. My sister is a vet and her methods/recommendations have not worked yet. Thanks for your advice! :)
I haven't weighed any of mine yet. Is there a reason one should beyond curiosity or recording statistical averages? I had one or two really large ones that tasted great and had several yokes. As of now, we are getting a regular production of small to medium sized eggs. We just started laying in...
We have two dogs. A huge 130# yellow lab who is a huge scaredy cat and will not mess with our other animals including the chickens. We also have a German Shorthair Puppy who has natural bird dog instincts plus she is an alpha dog. She has found a way into the chicken shed numerous times and I...
We are up north in Washington and our hens started laying too. Our black Astralorp is laying almost one a day. Some of the others are too. We are getting about two eggs a day out of our small flock.
Congratulations!
We got our first egg about the same week as you! It was so exciting.
The next few were softshell and then I got this really large one that filled the palm of my hand.
It was the largest egg I had ever seen.
Since then, we have more hens laying, one of which is laying a small egg...
Here was our first egg on 1/15/20. It was a little bit of a surprise as I thought we had to wait until 6 months. This was at only 4 months and since then, we have continued to get more eggs from 2-3 of our hens. We have one black Astralorp who is laying a small dark brown egg every morning and...
Hi y'all,
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Yes, brand new to chickens, although my mom was raised on a farm and I remember their chickens when I was young.
We started on this journey this last September.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We originally...
