Question of the Day - Friday, August 1st, 2025

From my mom or my friend, yes. Especially thunder hugs when I need help regulating. Other people, I won't argue, but I won't ask either. I also don't reciprocate, as odd as it sounds. My arms don't want to move, just my head and shoulders.

    How to Breed Chocolate Silkies?

You need at least one chocolate to breed them. It's a sexlink gene though, so it's not as simple as other recessive colors

Why are grey chickens called every other color but grey?

I suppose the same reason dogs and rabbits are called blue and lilac and not grey

How to get an adult quail to take care of/bond with baby quail?

You can't just make a bird bond with a chick. They need to have been broody (rarely, rarely, rarely there are exceptions, but it's almost certain that the bird in question isn't t one) to have the possibility of taking in the chick. The chick also needs to accept the broody, which generally...

    Capon slips

General consensus is that it won't stop crowing because they already have learned to crow and it's a habit at that point

Best and Worst Books You Had to Read in School

Oh I completely forgot I read The Pearl. Still better than the Grapes of Wrath though.

    Jumbo Pekin

Likely this. The more productive the mother, the more eggs she'll lay and the more potential ducklings they can sell from her. It's (partially) the same reasoning with the mother strain in CornishX

Question of the Day - Saturday, July 26th, 2025

Nope. I always break the matches or scar them up too much trying to make them light

Any 4H poultry/rabbit judges out there?

In my fair, you had to have at least 5 to have any placing including grands and reserves. If there were less, then they just got the red and blue non-place ribbons. Very rarely were there whites, typically only if the animal was clearly not show condition (ratty and missing feathers or mid molt...

Post pictures of your olive eggers please

If the olive egger doesn't have a Crest, all it means is the parents didn't have a Crest. All three of mine are crestless because neither araucana nor marans have crests, but they do have the color genes needed for olive eggs

    Trying to get sexlink chicks

As long as the male isn't barred, you should get sexlinks

I know I’m probably going to upset some ppl, but I’m genuinely confused..

If she just does feeding and watering once a day, it would be very easy for her to not notice a broody if the hen wasn't laying in the nest box

I know I’m probably going to upset some ppl, but I’m genuinely confused..

I've had hens show up with chicks before. Usually it's because I'm just really bad at looking for nests, or in my ranging flock, I just assume one was taken by a predator. Although I'll be honest, I had one just 3 days ago show up with a chick that I had genuinely forgotten I still had since she...
