    Major swollen eye RIR rooster

Ok we cleaned the eye with gauss, and saline. Either we were too chicken or there wasn’t a lot of puss. We squeeze from different angles but nothing really came out except a little from the corner. We will try again tomorrow I guess but here’s some close ups of his eye and before and after...

Thanks. Like I said I won’t be able to get anything till Friday sadly as Yom Kippur starts in a few hours (it’s the holiest day of the year in israel, everything is shut down) so I’ll do what I can till then and give him antibiotic herbs and such in his water

He also seems to not be able to hold his head completely stable, but he had a neck injury a few months ago. he’s not sneezing and he’s still crowing. Poop looks normal. Our chicks free...

5 week old chick started walking funny

So went out this morning to give vitamins, and he was walking around pretty normally. Still noticeably slower but not on his hocks 🤷🏼‍♀️ still gave him the b vitamins and added brewers yeast to the feed.

5 week old chick started walking funny

Feeding them chick starter from my breeder. They are a fenced in run in my yard so they can scratch and peck. They get mealworms once a week and just gave them some sprouts this week for the first time. I will separate it tomorrow.

5 week old chick started walking funny

I have a 5 week old RIR who today I just noticed is walking hunched down. The feet and most of the leg to the joints is touching the ground. He can walk around but isn’t moving like the others and isnt has hyper/playful. I checked for any external injury and can’t see anything. Seems to still be...

    Growing fodder in hot climates

Where we live our greenest most vegetation filled times are over the winter and early spring. From mid May-late Oct we see no rain. Even with watering parts of our property there isn’t much that grows this time of year. I was thinking of starting to grow some fodder and tried a small batch but...

    Coop door and kids

So we Black and copper Marans and Plymouth rocks. And I have a 3year old and one year old. 😂 I see the recommended coop door size is 10x10. How small can I go so that my kids won’t be able to climb in and out? Current door is 10x16

    Covid-panic-induced chicken keeping?

Totally. We just happened to get our chicks the week before everything locked down here, but we had been planning it for months and that’s just how the timing Worked. But I had plenty of experience raising chicks-chickens. Wouldn’t you know if a couple of weeks into it, several friends contacted...

    Ventilation for free range birds

Thanks I will do that. And yes my husband and I already said we would do overhands on the roof. It depends every year. It’s not thunder storms just heavy steady rain sometimes with wind for days. In the spring there can be small hail every now and then. we live in the Golan Heights of Israel...

    Ventilation for free range birds

Ok so what if we did open vent areas a few 2in long covered with screen, and running the length of to sides (roughly 5ft long) would that be good? Where should the roost positioned so they don’t get a strong draft? We were going to do it in a corner. One roost at 1 1/2f and another at 2 1/2

    Ventilation for free range birds

We are in the midst of constructing our chicken house for our 7 chickens (though will be 5 in a few weeks). We have around 300m fenced in space out side with 5 fruit trees that we will let them run freely in. My question is HOW much ventilation is enough since they will be outside most all day...
