I might regret this later but I might plant some arborvitae thuja emerald green inside along the west side so they have a little shade in the hot afternoon summer sun... I'll post pics when done 👍

Any suggestions on a new coop that won't take a bunch of space? I wasn't planning on giving up more garden space for now.

Need advice on how to enclose the roost area, please :-)

Thanks for the replies. Here is pic from further back... for now it's just enclosed on the right side half. As far as predators, I think we have raccoons as the biggest, other than hawks. I am putting stronger gauge wire fence around the bottom 4ft for now after seeing your comment aart. Thanks!

    Hi from WA state!

It is heartbreaking to think about ever culling any of these beautiful creatures; I have already bonded to them and they are still on the other side of the fence. That being said, I do eat meat, so I can't act like animals aren't being slaughtered. I could get most of my protein going forward...

Thanks for the warm welcome and the tips on how to deal with my new family members. I talked to my neighbor and fortunately he's been feeding and letting them sleep under his deck arbor, but he's worried about them as well. He's going to help me build a coop but asked that I get rid of any...

    Hi from WA state!

Thanks, Valerie! That is why I asked. Although I am a carnivore, I imagine it would be tough to eat a bird that has provided love and eggs! Ugh! :-)

    Hi from WA state!

Thanks again, Sourland! OK, last question... what should I do? I would love to get some prolific layers because that would be the main reason for me to raise them. I have no idea if backyard chickens also eventually get used for their meat? I'm assuming some farmers do and some don't? Ok, I...

    Hi from WA state!

Thank you, sourland! After a quick search it looks like the mom lays eggs and then I'm assuming the females of the brood will lay eggs as well? I will probably figure out how to get them to safety and just raise them hopefully.

    Hi from WA state!

Hello! I'm not only introducing myself, but asking for advice on what to do with these "strays" in my neighborhood. Can anyone tell me what I have here? I think it's a mom with 4 or 5 "teenagers"? I'm afraid if I don't adopt them soon they might get hurt, or worse. Also, I gave them some...
