Update - Parsley passed this morning. Trying to assess if it was Gapeworm and if I should be treating the others. Is there a downside to treating them without knowing if they have them?
Thank you for a response. I did as best I could - I don’t see anything. She made it through the night - still breathing very heavy. I did get her to eat some yogurt last night. No noise out of her while she is breathing- she is occasionally and rarely making a random squauk/cough.
Just coming in on this now, many years later I know. I've been having reoccurring issue -- curious as to who your NJ Avian Specialist was / where they were from? I'm in Monmouth County.
Update:
Poop test came back negative.
Friday - looking and feeling great - regular poop
Saturday - looking and feeling great - regular poop
Only remaining issue that I can see is no eggs for a week+ at this point.
I spoke with Vet - he is guessing along with me so not much help. He suggested...
Thank you for your response. He felt something soft - could not tell if it was a soft shell or not. After her crop cleared, I was hoping she passed it but I don't know.
Looking once again for advice/assistance. I will try to be brief.
My chickens are pets (spoiled ones at that).
Thyme is 1 1/2 years old - great girl, strong, consistent layer, lives with 3 other girls in relative harmony.
They eat layer feed, have access to grit, calcium and fresh water...
Wow-- this made me feel 100% better - I am a novice and want to ensure I am not missing anything obvious. Like you, I have them on flock raiser with oyster shell on side, have been giving them extra protein treats (tuna, worms, etc.) I've sprinkled DE now and again in the run but not enough to...
Photos of my Barred Rock - approx 9 mos. so should not be molting?
Background: she stopped laying months ago, had a bout of water diarrhea for weeks (may or may not be related). 3 other hens she is with are fine/happy/healthy w no feather loss - she is actually fine/happy/eats well/active, etc...
Thank you for your input!
Food other than chicken feed - treats - a handful here and there and a small salad in the AM. Salads, veggies, fruits, yogurt, oatmeal, scratch, mealworms, crickets, sunflower seeds
I switched back to Purina Layena about 10 days ago.
They 'free range' in a controlled...
First time chicken owner here and have had a pretty easy go of it. Lots of reading and trial and error - my 4 girls have been happy and healthy! All started laying at right about when they should and have been consistent up until recently.
It began when I noticed 'water poop' in the coop - and...
Thanks. She calmed down later that day but has been quite chatty with me. No egg yet this AM :-( She loves to go in the nesting box and pull out all the hay! If I get another egg I will put in the box. Seems I have had such an easy time with them thus far they have done just about everything...
First time chicken owner here (4 hens) and was super excited to get our first egg this morning! It was in the run but that is OK -- am probably way more excited than I should be :-) Anyway, it is hot as hell here in NJ today and all are laying around in clearly feeling the heat but my layer is...
So we took everyone's advice and my own instinct that the "starter kit" cage was too small - I swear they grow by the hour. It is cold and rainy here and we are still setting up the outdoor coop so we spent Saturday building a larger enclosure and my dining room has now been converted - I am...
Thanks - cute names! What I am finding is that much of what I read is opinion rather than fact. I was taking everything as hard and fast rules and then I began to realize it is like asking how to raise a child - different things work for different people. I am listening to all, retaining what I...
Hello all - brand new chicken owner here - we are talking 48 hours now.
Loving having the girls in the house (4-7 week old Pullets) and watching their personalities emerge but a few questions....
1. When can I reasonably expect to move them outside? I've read about a guideline of 95 degrees...
