    Chicken Jail

First time chicken owner, so I hope all these pics will help answer the original question if we are doing the isolation/jail right. Footprint the run and coop is 10’x23’. Coop is 10’x6’ ( not 5 as previously posted. Measured today). Haven't has any issues since isolating the one RIR, which is...

    Chicken Jail

I was worried it was something we were managing wrong as well. It has just been the RIRs that have shown the relentless plucking and pecking. The others have not shown this aggressiveness. There is pecking of course, but it’s just one offs and never any feather pulling. Will try the isolation...

    Chicken Jail

If this doesn't deter them, especially with Rhode Island's, raise the individual separately for a stew or barbecue. Will do the above if we can’t deter the pecking and feather pulling. Thanks.

    Chicken Jail

I am not sure your coop and run will be enough room for your birds when they get older. It’s 10’x23’ and we have 10 birds. How much room are we supposed to have? Thanks.

Anyone tried building their own coop similiar to Carolina Coops

We based ours off of a Carolina Coop. No plans, but here’s some pics that might help. We used cement board for the coop part. This was built on an existing concrete slab.

    Chicken Jail

You have no other older birds.... just these 2 chicks, one of whom is trying to 'eat' the other? No older birds. The others peck each other of course, but this RIR pulls feathers and pecks until they bleed.

    Chicken Jail

Why did you rehome the 2? They plucked and pecked four of the other chicks until they bled. Flock was calm for a week before this other RIR started up.

    Chicken Jail

New member and new chicken owner here looking for some input. We have had problems with our Rhode Island Reds plucking feathers from other chicks and pecking to the point that they cause wounds with bleeding. Have re-homed two recently and have two left. All was good for a couple of days after...

    Intro

Hello All, Just wanted to introduce myself to the group. Got into the chicken game five weeks ago with 12 chicks. We have re-homed two (Rhode Island Reds) due to excessive pecking and plucking. So, we now have four Buff Orpingtons, two Rhode Island Refs, two Brahmas, and two Silver...
