Well, 3 days in my shower seems to have worked - she's running with the other girls and i think she even laid an egg yesterday. Hard to tell since I have two copper marans - thnx to all who responded.
i luv this site - so much info & HELP, too. Never thought owning chickens would be so rewarding; and being able to get questions and the quick feedback is amazing. Thank you, everyone.
This is second time this little gal has gone broody - after putting post on Nextdoor in my n'brhood - I was told to "lock her up" which I did - for 2 days. She shaped up for a very short while - now she's doing it again, so I put her in my shower for 2 nites & let her out this afternoon...
my copper maran hen (not even a year old yet) no longer lays, but sits in laying box - that everyone else wants - and keeps their eggs warm - i pull her out when I'm up there - but what to do??????
i don't think they're olive eggers. I have one of those. I've attached a picture. The golden one is getting her feathers back - when I got her owner said she was picked on. But look closely at Lu's head - very interesting - thnx
I purchased these 2 gals, Emmy & Lou, and can't remember what breed I was told they were - Faverelle? (sp?) Help, please. The golden head gal lays matte-colored bluish/white eggs with little dots on them. Lou, who has a marvelous topknot, lays the same color, however, egg has slight glaze...
very interesting article - who'd a thought - unusual plant not familiar with it - where did you get info to decide to plant this? I'm always trying to get plants girls won't destroy, yet enjoy. Now I'll research it - Thnx from Napa, CA
Looks very clean and tidy; but I don't understand your laying boxes. Can yu show pictures of them open, please? Thnx - I, too, have metal shed; but my young girls just lay on each other & break their eggs, choosing just one box.
Since I just ordered 50# of layer feed, I don't want to get something else. I think perhaps increasing protein intake, but not too much. I know I'm a soup & french bead fanatic during the winter, but I don't molt; but with colder weather adding a bit more protein surely wouldn't hurt.
well, I discovered 2 newbies laid their first egg in another part of garden - same spot - too turns, I guess. I just redid laying boxes. I think this may be the problem. I had first dealt with bluejays stealing eggs for a week, the 2 layers then took the week and hid 17 eggs under a very...
My year-old hen is laying under a large shrub - different from another one she laid under, after bluejays were snagging her eggs and her buddy's. Now, she's relocated to another shrub, further away. What can I do? I'm gonna trim wings on all the girls I have, since they fly the coop and enjoy...
One of my leghorns has an extremely poopy butt and she I've noticed a couple times she's been off by herself. I'm terribly lax b'cz I've been ill and in and out of the hospital, but this has been ongoing for at least the past month - i read a few notes where people suggested just washing her...
