I am absolutely heartbroken right now!
Its been 9 months since we got our Ducklings at 2.5 weeks old. They aren't friendly, they aren't the greatest pets... But heck, they were family!
I'm angry inside, but bawling my eyes out because our Mama Jelly passed away sometime this morning- she was...
So we decided to bring the 3 smallest, weaker ducklings inside to a warm bucket - they just were being buried beneath everyone else and all the bedding and we didn't want them to suffocate or overheat.
The middle one is the one (smallest of all 8) who we had to assist entirely as it was in the...
So, everyone has successfully hatched! Everyone pipped except the smallest egg, and because of the heat here and mum decided to take a 3hr break away, everyone needed assisting as they began shrink-wrapping.
But we have 8 ducklings and hopefully all survive. If mum doesn't sit on them or...
Hello- I am SchmidtChick, and I am by no means new to owning Guinea Pigs.
But, it has been a few years! 😅
In September I added 2 young sows to our family, Shirley and Temple, who are beautiful and sweet as beans- Our 3 year old loves to help herself to cuddles and is very gentle about their...
I have no idea 😂 I was told Sussex when I got him and his 5 girls as 2.5 week chicks. They are 3.5 months and definitely not all are pure - 3 have Sussex combs, and 3 the flat *hen / walnut *roo look.
The girls are 3 browns (the definitive black neck streaks), 1 light looking, 1 creamy looking
Vodka
3.5 month old
Sussex x Wyandotte
*temporarily in solitary confinement cause he's been making our girls run for the hills when its lock up time after free ranging the day away
I went to try get photos of the eggs and now we have a 2nd Pipped 🤩
^ Left top egg + mid bottom are the pippers
Everyone else is tapping away
^2nd to pip
^ 1st to pip
We have 3 Dogs in our mixed critter home~
Ace is a 7 year old de-sexed Male Border Collie x Bull Arab/Great Dane
Harley is a 7.5 year old entire Male Red Heeler x Ridgeback/Staffy
Rosie is a 4yr old de-sexed Feme Kelpie x Dingo
We don't breed or show, but our dogs are our family and they NEVER...
So egg-cited!!
8 Muscovy Eggs under Mama Duck, and when she popped out to eat, drink, bathe I took a peek.
Expected hatch is Dec 3-4th... Currently 1 Pip and LOTS of tapping inside every single egg 😍😍😬😬
Temps have been 37-40°C here (98-104°F) this past week so I was thinking an earlier hatch...
Well I've not been able to get photos of any candlings as Mama Jelly gets very suspicious very quickly and, frankly, she sscares me more than a little.
Our 8 eggs still look FANTASTIC, and are expected to hatch in 4-5 days. I will be taking photos as they hatch / once they are fluffy as Mama...
We got our Pekin Bantam at 8-9 months (prev. owner wasn't sure) and she laid her first egg within the week of coming home.
Your girls look like they are getting close, nice and red in the wattles/ combs which is a good sign.
Its the end of Spring, going Summer start of December here- I'm in QLD
Our 4 original girls were clipped 6 months ago end of Autumn/start of Winter and have just about all got their feathers back now.
We now have 17 chooks to clip as everyone is practicing running-flying and we can't have any...
@Goosebaby I will definitely try that! We free-range every day when we can so I'll let him interact more.
His (or her I just call him a He) permanent living will hopefully be with our Muscovies. But I'd like to be able to free-range an "sky alert dog" with them as we have hawks etc and hope to...
Sadly he is our only goose at the moment, but he has been bonding and become friends with our Muscovy Drake so they tend to spend time together when out.
He's only in a pen at thr moment as we have hawks and I'm worried they'll make off with the yellow fluff even though its the size of a...
@LothalRebel
Pogo's 'wife' has been broody on her eggs for the last 19 days, so I guess Pogo found a friend who was 'duck enough' for him.
* we'll be adding on to his pen soon, as its only temporary while he's small / we are also looking to move in the next month or so.
So far, yes. He escaped his pen while my partner was mowing and ran to our Musocvy Drake until my partner was finished.
I thought our Drake would be mean, but they've been friends through his puppy pen for the last 3 weeks so guess they've acclimatised unlike the chickens who only free-range...
