I’ve got a Dominique/silkie with a lame left foot. I believe he is a rooster, about 5 weeks old. He’s very active and strong otherwise, seems healthy. They are housed in a coop, closed off from the big birds for now. I’m feeding them organic chick starter. The have pine shavings in their coop...
*UPDATE*
Jo passed away this afternoon. She appeared to be sleeping peacefully. I’m blessed to have been her chicken mama. Thank you to all who reached out with advice. I’ve learned more about my sweet feathered friends in the last 24 hours than I have in the 4 years I’ve cared for them...
*UPDATE*
Jolene is still alive this am 🙏🏻 She had her head up and eyes open. Seems to be a little stronger. I was able to get some sugar water and tums into her this am. She’s still passing mucus from her vent. Mouth was clear and clean. Still labored breathing and only able to stand up for a...
I’ve tried giving some dissolved Tums as I believe this may be the only thing that’ll help. I can’t feel an egg. Maybe she is hypocalcemic and in shock? I’m here with her, praying for a miracle.
There is still mucus coming from her vent. What does this mean? Obvious answer to me would be some sort of infection. Is mucus commonly seen in an egg bound chicken?
I’m trying to get tums into her but she’s not swallowing. She won’t lift her head or open her eyes. I pulled her from the tub as soon as she started dropping her head.
It’s mucus. Thin with thick streaks. She cannot stand. She’s breathing heaving. Her vent looks as if she is trying to push something out. I’d have to dissolve the tums and feed with a syringe. She’s so sleepy is that ok?
I gave her a warm bath and palpated her abdomen. I couldn’t appreciate any swelling. I’m assuming an egg would be obvious if she was bound. She did lay today. She’s almost too lethargic to keep in a tub of water. Eyes are closed and head down.
