Thank you everyone for your help, it's very much appreciated. Sadly after closer examination the wound had more tearing under the muscle close to her intestines that we hadn't noticed at first and it started leaking fluids. Along with how labored her breathing became we decided the most humane...
One of my chickens was attacked by the neighbors dog not half an hour ago. Sadly this is the third attack but I refuse to lose another chicken. She is acting lethargic but still alive and breathing. I don't know how to help her, we are calling our vet but don't know if they will take emergency...
I know some people will give the chicken some olive oil if massaging the crop isn't working, it help lubricate what ever is stuck inside so it'll unstick easier. You can give it some apple cider vinegar in its water(1 tablespoon vinegar to 1 gallon water) to kinda regulate the yeast growing in...
Could it be sour crop, one of my chicks had it(he recovered fine on his own in a day, I was very lucky) his crop was very large and jiggly, as if it was a water balloon. Have you noticed him spit up and liquid and does his breath have a sour smell, those are some main things. I believe both sour...
Didnt get to finish writing the thread as I am sitting outside with two chickens on my lap pecking at my phone and pressed the send button.
Any help figuring out the genders of these guys would be greatly appreciated. I need to find the rooster now homes sadly, and the sooner I do it the...
I have three chickens, two are 13 weeks old and we haven't a clue what their breeds are the lighter gray one has started to crow. The other black chicken is 15 weeks a black maran we got from tractor supply pre-sexed but we aren't positive she actually is a girl.
We are keeping them in an enclosure outside 24/7 since it very warm and my family keeps our house cold. So it has food and water all night. Should I take it inside with a heat lamp to see how it is doing in the morning or leave it outside and check?
They have lots of water and plenty of shade. The chicks crop felt very squishy and larger then the other chicks of the same age we have. They are acting normal and drank some of the new cooler water I brought out for them.
I'm not sure if this is normal for chicks as I couldn't find any information on this. As far as I know at least one of my 5 week old chicks has spit up clear white liquid that's is reminiscent of dog drool. It can from their beak and not her nose so I don't think it is from a respiratory...
No just one chick(I was just using the singular they/them pronouns sorry if I sounded confusing.). The chick got stuck in the egg at the very end and had to be gently pulled out, I wasn't there for the hatching so all I know is what my mother has told me. We had twelve eggs but only the one...
I think the chick is doing worse, I hope it's just that they're tired, but I doubt it. They're stumbling around with their head falling down and eyes closed. I don't know if they're going to live, the chick had some very sticky poop on their rear that I wiped up and then rubbed olive oil on the...
Yep, its an antibiotic ointment that the owner of our adult chickens had in the chicken first aid kit she left us.
And thank you for the document it seems very informative!
I've been putting antibiotics on the chick, and they seem to be doing well with it, being very sweet and climbing into my hand when its time to reapply. I'm going to work on cleaning them off once I find a soft brush. How would you recommend splinting the foot, should I use the tape method?
I'm not sure, I don't know if it was bent yesterday since it mostly laid around and slept. The chick did let me touch its foot and the toe can still bend straight.
