I can't imagine he would have a hard time if he just took a country drive north. I am a little farther west (1 hour) and I routinely pass 10+ places I could stop off and buy eggs.
I found this for you, but it is pretty vague:
§ 87-2Keeping of farm animals.
It shall be unlawful to keep and maintain within the corporate limits of the City any animals generally considered to be farm animals, except in areas now zoned agricultural and in established stockyards and livestock...
Sorry for the delay, since then I have built a house for them yes. I surprisingly dont have a picture of it though.
If anyone has any Silver Appleyards that need a new home we might be interested. Same with turkeys!
I used the same video linked, as well as Caroline Coop to reverse engineer our duck run. Threw in some of my own adaptations of stuff to cut down material costs. Was still spendy with lumber costs, however if you are OK with not perfect lumber Home Depot sells 70% culls and I was able to find a...
Oh everything can be bigger! However it is much larger than we ever have had and we have a rather small flock. That and from our experience the ducks only use it to lay.
That was the idea this time, pre-stain everything and then touch up if needed. I cant imagine trying to cut in around the metal roofing, hurricane straps, hinges, etc and trying to make it look good.
Runs done! It is fully enclosed with hardware cloth and I made a pretty cool door for it (Not shown...yet).
Anyone catch the poultry swap in Sharpsburg this last weekend? Was out first time and it was a good time!
Change from what I usually do. I do have to think ahead though instead of just cut and fasten. Would I do it again? Yes if I knew and was ok with doing touch up.
Too busy to take pictures! Got it all done and had to test it all out with our ducklings and poults. Not shown is the door, will try to remember to get a picture of that soon.
Phase two has began; the mega duck house. Coming in at 6'x3' the idea was room for plenty of birds or the option to...
Thank you!
Ended up doing some roof work over the past couple of days. Next will be to cut the pieces of blocking between my rafters. Short on stained boards so I might have to stain some more before getting to that.
I have one of those moveable electric fence units on the back of my mind if we need it. If the turkeys and ducks dont get along the turkeys will get a little more outside time with it.
Completed some more progress over the past couple of days.
We are going to the swap, first timers and are excited! There are a ton of FB groups that swap poultry and hatching eggs! Looking for anything in particular? Tractor Supply is discounting most of their birds right now I have noticed.
After moving cross country we started up our duck flock. In with a new flock comes a new duck run and house! With the little ones brooding I had to get cracking at the new run! Building off of our original experience we wanted to make some changes:
Goals:
-Walk in design: Make it easier on...
Have not had Appleyards, no. We had a flock of Magpies before.
Had some good weather this weekend and got the duck run walls up. Trusses hopefully this week! Had a couple escapees from their brooder pool so temp fencing in the basement also got done :)
Glad to hear about Magpies! After moving cross country last year we had to leave our flock with our neighbors farm :( I loved the Magpies due to them being unique and medium. We too never were keen on mail ordering but TSC around us only had breeds we were less interested in :( Trying Silver...
Hi Maryland! Not much action in here :( Moved here from the west coast and are starting our flock of ducks again. Silver Appleyards this time. Also raising a pair of poults too.
