Okay great, I have the Mazuri waterfowl maintenance pellets. I just thought you weren't supposed to use them until they were fully feathered adults. But I will start transitioning him onto that. Thank you!
Thanks for the help! What do you recommend feeding? Right now he/she gets an 18% starter crumble along with veggies/fruits and insects. 18% seems to be on the lower end of the protein ratio out of the starter crumbles that I've seen. I'm guessing we should lower the amount of starter given and...
Hi all, I work for a wildlife rehab and have been raising ducklings for two years. This is my first experience of possibly dealing with angel wing. We have had this mallard for almost two months and he/she has started showing signs of angel wing. What is the best way to treat this in a native...
Yeah, I am struggling with which to treat first. I want her to swim to help her foot, but I also want to keep her dry to help with waterproofing. Poor girl :( thank you so much for your help!
Thank you for your response, that was really helpful! Anything I can do to help her waterproofing? I read that dawn dish soap baths can help so I just did that, but not sure what else to do. Thank you!
Hi everyone. I work at a wildlife rehab facility and we have a juvenile female wood duck in our care. She developed bumblefoot this week and is now on a round of medications, and is doing epsom salt soaks twice a day. She also had a fever yesterday. After her first salt soak yesterday, we...
Hey everyone, I work at a wildlife rehab facility and we have been raising this wood duckling since she was just a little hatchling. Now that she is older, we can’t decide if he/she is a male or female. I’ve attached some pictures below. Thanks for your help!
Hi everyone, does anybody know what kind of duck this is? She is not 100% feathered yet, still young. Found in south Alabama for reference! I was thinking a cinnamon teal, but not sure. Thanks!
Update: she had a vet appointment today. She had x rays and nothing is broken. Vet believes it is either a birth defect, or an old injury that is healing wrong. Unfortunately he says there isn’t much we can do for it, she will just have to adapt and learn to get around. Thank you for all the help!
Hmmm interesting. Any idea how something like that would have happened? We have had her since she was a few days old, and she was walking fine up until a few weeks ago. Yes, we do have a vet in the area. Will try to set up an appointment
Hi everyone, thank you for your help! This is all new to me so any advice is greatly appreciated. I truly want the best for this little duck. I took a video of her walking this morning and attached it below. Let me know what you think.
I will try to get a video up tomorrow! The leg is warm, but not any warmer than the other leg. I haven't seen any swelling on the foot/leg. She very rarely puts weight on it. She can occasionally limp on it, but for the most part she avoids putting any weight on it. We have 500mg Niacin capsules...
Hi all,
I want to preface this by saying that I work for a licensed wildlife rehabilitation clinic. We have been raising a wood duckling (at least we think she is a wood duck) for about a month now. We believe she is around 5 weeks old. We started out feeding her a non-medicated chick starter...
