Attempted my first hatching a couple months ago from purchased fertilized eggs. Unfortunately it seems like the post office made sure they were shaken not stirred because not a single successful hatch & the 4-6 I cracked to see where it went wrong all looked like this. Meat birds are growing at...
Side note: go for the stall refresher instead of the coop refresher. It’s the same product but you get a bigger bag for less $$ than if you go for the coop refresher
Minimal, every other weekend we add fresh pdz & wood chips into the runs. Coop clean out/clean up. We are trying the deep litter method & hoping that come this winter it will help keep the run a few degrees warmer so it’s comfortable for the animals (we live in Vermont, USA) they do have a stick...
We use pdz only in our run for both our chickens/turkeys & for the ducks. Our coops don’t seem to need it but when we built them this year we did put linoleum down as flooring with clean up in mind. Any stuck on & we spray it down with the hose & use a squeegee
Have you heard any distinct quacking? A female duck quacks where a male makes a raspy sound. Whoever was talking in the first video sounded male to me.
Definitely head to a vet ASAP, I had a Rouen that was seizing & it was the most terrifying experience I’ve gone through with her. The vet saw her 2 days in a row both days she had a selenium injection & she had a keppra injection the first day & I was given oral keppra for her to continue on. It...
Because you are giving them another option which is familiar they most likely won’t swap. A few weeks ago we changed over from a tractor supply purchased water dish to a cup system fed from a rain barrel & took out all other options. We did watch carefully the first day to ensure they were...
So we have 5 ducks & gave them a 14 foot by 7 foot run. We did a very simple coop design & made it 2 ft by 5 ft with the door that we drop down as their “ramp” (the base of the door is 6” off the ground) the larger higher coop is for our chickens & they have a 6 foot run as well as access to...
Thanks! To be honest this is my first time with any agricultural birds & we went all out with both ducks & chickens. And have purchased way more than initially agreed upon for this year. (Mainly me, I've been adding to the numbers 😂). And we are both essential workers so we've been building the...
They are all settled in at home. I could hear them as soon as the postal worker opened the door. The Rouen was 1 week & 4 days at arrival while the Cayugas were 4 days old on arrival. Eating and drinking plenty, and making puddles when they can from their drinking water
That's crazy! We got our new ducklings yesterday, it took about 2 days for them to ship from California to Vermont & the post office call me to pick them up @ 6:15 in the morning (thank goodness I'm an early riser) the original delivery date per the tracking was the following day (today)
I want to thank you all for your help! We’re coming up on 17 hours with no seizures and my girl is starting to act more like herself and it’s such a huge relief. After a few days of minimal sleep because of the frequency and feeling like my concerns were dismissed at the vets I was in tears...
Hurray!! We are celebrating 6 hours seizure free. She’s still eating very little and is very lethargic (hoping it’s a side effect from the meds) stools are getting more solid, there is still a greenish hue to it but a good amount of black(she was given activated charcoal yesterday)
I weighed her this morning she’s 805g so Aprox 1.12 lbs. gave her the first oral dose of the seizure meds and it’s chicken flavor? She did have a different color stool this morning, thankfully seizure activity was down some
