This was incredibly helpful, thank you! I never thought about the leave it command with this, and not rewarding them with what they are "leaving". 2 of my other dogs know leave it but I'll have to re-teach them that!
And I have her clicker trained, so that will be very helpful.
Its funny you...
Oh yes I have. We have 3 other dogs, they are all well trained with our animals. shes just our first puppy. And we're doing basics with her, and she's responding well. I was just thinking for my own peace of mind to add this in.
Also one of our older dogs is a coonhound+German wirehair mix and...
Hello everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone had tips for good websites or teaching methods for keeping our new puppy uninterested in hurting my chickens.
Shes a German Wirehair Pointer, which I realize are bird dogs. But I've read are one if the best for having chickens. The breeder has...
Hopefully she wont get to squrimy, I had to give her a "bath" and she was not a fan. I know you really shouldnt bathe chickens but the food was to caked on her chest to not and I didn't want it to start to hurt. I will do that after ger morning breakfast. Thank you :)
I have to get a better scale the one I have isnt the best, but it seems shes keeping the same weight and the scale says so but its a bit dodgy haha. And I'll do the cloth and the q tip see which one is most effective. Thank you :)
I'll try that, her beak doesn't seem to be as sensitive. And I didnt think of that, I'll definitely do that to make feeding more enjoyable. Thank you :)

My chicken HoneyBee got attacked by a mink (we suspect) about 5 days ago. She's doing really well for a chick missing a leg and top beak. As to someone's suggestion, ive been syringe feeding her...
Thats an amazing design! If I were to do a run this would I would aim for. I've thought about for winter doing what you did above it, sense the preds around here get much more bold come winter time. Becuase we do have a fenced in area inside our already fenced yard.
Yesterday I posted about my chicken being attacked by a mink/weasle. And from the help of many(thank you) I'm slowly trying to get her back to good health. But she has started a long screeching noise, which I originally thought was hunger, but I had fed her and she continued to do it. I cant...
The people who do probably got one without knowing the dangers of having them in ones house or just don't care. I kept my baby turkeys in my room, they were in containment but still in my room until they featherd in. I did it so I could build a bond, I knew the risk and what could happen, but...
That's why I chose free range at first, for their happiness and well-being. I'm very much attached to all of them but knowing now how easy it is for an accident/disease its probably what's best to accept it.
That's my plan, becuase our fence is very secure, but the gate is what allowed it in, theres a gap under in that is just big enough for a weasle to wedge through. And yes fingers crossed! Ares arent full grown yet, so maybe I'll wait until they are!
Hey all,
I just wanted opinions on how you keep your chickens, I free range mine but was wondering what your opinions were on it. I had an accident with a weasle/mink yesterday and I'm weighing my options if I should turn to a run rather than free range. What are your thoughts?
Would giving her baby formula in milk or baby goat/cow/horse help to fill her stomach? Just until her beak scabs over I dont want her to be hungry and in pain.
