Broody Possibly Rejected Chicks. Worth Trying Again?

Hi I am in a similar situation. I have a Barnevelder that has been broody for weeks and I couldn’t break it so let her sit on an egg and then gave her some day olds yesterday. She has had chicks last year so am hoping all will be well but I’ve been sat here for a couple of hours and went to make...

    Healthy chicken gone blind

Hi Yes I have Australorps and they have beautiful almost black eyes so this is definitely not right. My CLB didn’t have any noticeable changes to the look of her eyes. Sadly she didn’t make it. Last few days she couldn’t even stand and I felt I had procrastinated long enough clinging to every...

    Healthy chicken gone blind

Hi I did that for two weeks and she will eat a bit but not enough really, same with fluids. I also gave her antibiotics in water so she got some fluids and the nitro drops. She’s them had chloramphenicol eye drops - on going. It’s as if she is depressed because she can’t see which I know is daft...

    Healthy chicken gone blind

Thank you so much for this I will give it a try. She has had antibiotic eye cream with no result but I’ll try anything! If she would only ‘find’ the feeders etc I would feel better but I’m not sure she is going to. I plan to give it until the weekend 😬

    Healthy chicken gone blind

Hi Thank you your reply I don’t think it is ammonia as I clean out everyday and they have sawdust under the roost to absorb the poop over night. I think the coop is ventilated well Now she is back with the flock I’ll give her a chance again today and keep an eye on her. hi Thank you for your...

    Healthy chicken gone blind

Hi thank you so much for your reply and concern. She is two years old, almost and it came in over about a week I think. She seemed to be ok that first week - managing to eat and drink but not moving much. Yesterday evening I got everything ready to dispatch her as I felt she’d had an awful day...

    Healthy chicken gone blind

Hi all I’m so sad as one of my CLB has gone blind. She is healthy looking - poop normal eating and drinking when I put her in front of food and water. She’s had antibiotics and eye drops and two weeks in the ‘hospital’ but no improvement in eye sight. I’ve now put her back with the flock as...

    Blind chicken

:thumbsup:thumbsup thank you thats what i thought and i have seen her drink twice today in with the flock so she knows where the water is and her crop seemed full tonight when she went to bed. to be honest she was a bit more flighty tonight, which is normal for her and makes me think she can see...

    Blind chicken

Hi I have a two year old cream legbar who seems to have lost her sight in the last couple of weeks. I have attached photos of her eyes as I don’t think (and hope) it is Mareks. The iris has no grey colour to it. She is healthy otherwise not displaying the usual hunched tail down look of a...

    Keeping warm

Wow you really are at the other side of the world to me! Looks quite rural on google maps. Here’s hoping you don’t have to spend many days off grid this winter. 🐓👍

    Keeping warm

Hi Sorry by coop I mean the shed they go into at night. It is approx 10ft by 10ft with loads of roost space. They free range in the day. Sadly on Monday they will have to be in lock down - in big covered runs, as once again we have avian flu here 🙄😬 I’ll add my location when I go in amd get my...

    Keeping warm

Lovely pic of the ice! Where are you in the world? Luckily all mine do go in the coop but it is so funny watching them all sort out where they want to be, my cockerel who is a massive Australorp, went under a hen last night to get where he ‘needed’ to be, she was most indignant 😆

    Keeping warm

Hi Yes the roosts are four inch boards as I believe they are better. Chickens apparently weren’t meant to cling on all night! They sit and cover their toes to keep warm and in the wild originally protect from vermin. Thank you for your feedback ❤️🐓

    Keeping warm

Hi Yes I am in the uk, Lincolnshire so we don’t usually get harsh winters. The coop is draught free and ventilated and they get a bit of corn each afternoon before bed most days. They also have their feed available at all times of course I’m not too worried but just wanted to check that the...

    Keeping warm

Hi all I have a large coop for 50 birds but there are also extra roosts I’ve put up higher than the ones it came with. I have 37 chucks and so they aren’t all that close when roosting for the night. Will the ones on their own on the roost be warm enough without a friend to snuggle up to?
