    I dont think this was my rooster, whose poops are usually pretty textbook blobs with foam, not spread out like this. I have a couple of hens who may be elderly, have seen a couple of unshelled eggs in the last week, there are some ruffled feathers but otherwise everything is normal. Thoughts?

    I don't ordinarily. Everyone seems to be OK for the time being (they luuuuuv the DE, rush for it when I put it in) but I do realize that it's not for long-term use. We change out the sandbox regularly and rinse the sand, so it won't stay behind.

    As long as you aren't planning to eat the meat raw, I don't think there is anything to worry about. Ours go in the freezer, which also helps address some parasites. We are struggling with 3 roos that we accidentally made into pets (after culling 10) and it's true - we are trying to decide...

    Thanks - good. Yes, I notice we get messier poops with the mealworms (mostly offered as bribes while socializing them) Am trying to find sources of other dried bugs that aren't as high in fat: they aren't enthusiastic about dried crickets or grashoppers surprisingly. But I guess they will learn.

    22% protein feed plus dried mealworms (trying to switch to crickets and grasshoppers but they're not as interested) is not sufficient? The greens are just for enrichment, I just replaced them this afternoon so they had more to pick at today. Is it the protein or the brand or something else?

    Thanks for this thread! Am seriously worried about my favorite hen, who looks just like this (although we did have eggs yesterday) Am still doing some treatment for mites and lice (diatomaceous earth in the sandbox, and apple cider vinegar in the water) just in case.

    Am wondering if the swelling could also be a bound egg? She (I think) hasn't been laying normally. ETA: she's pooping a lot (all quails seem to poop a lot to mee) of various firmnesses (they had some lettuce yesterday, so I was assuming runny poops were because of that) and there is no vent...
