No our nesting boxes aren’t removable unfortunately. The crate we would like her to lay in is probably roughly 15 x 30 or something like that. It’s also all enclosed (not a wire dog crate) besides for the door.
The dog crate does have a door. Although we left it open because we had left the food and water right outside the door. Should I try again with the door closed?
We have a broody chicken who we are hoping to be able to use to raise some chicks. We haven't ordered the chicks yet as we hope to first move her to a dog crate on the ground where it's safer for her and the chicks. Last night we tried moving her, however, this morning when we went to check on...
A week or so ago one of our chickens got broody. Last night we tried to transfer her to a dog crate to lay so that we can give her chicks in a few weeks. We transferred her and her eggs without any light and pretty efficiently. She settled down on her eggs and slept there at least for an hour or...
Yesterday we had a chicken try to lay her first egg, but unfortunately ended with a prolapsed vent. We ended up taking the egg out and pushing the tissue back in. Then this morning we soaked her in an epsom salt bath, and then cleaned her up with witch hazel and a hemorrhoid cream. Her vent had...
I would also say a hen. I have two buff polish chickens who are currently 17 weeks. One is a rooster and the other is a hen. That looks a lot like my hen, however I'm no professional
Hey guys, I am wondering what gender my 9 week old Buff Laced Polish Chicken. (s)He is very friendly, but just today decided to attack some of my bigger chickens with their feet making me question the gender. It’s supposed to be female but who knows!
I'm no expert but mine are roughly 8 weeks old and they're in the coop. They're completely weaned off of heat and at night it gets to around mid-forties. However it also depends on the amount of insulation in your coop. For example mine has tons of insulation so it probably doesn't get that...
Thanks so much! Luckily height won’t be a problem as our chicken coop is well over 6ft tall. Its actually a straw bale construction coop, so it’s very well insulated as well with the straw and plaster. As far as I’ve researched too my chickens should be able to get up 3 ft and be able to perch...
Hey Guys! I'm currently in the process in making a coop for my 12 chickens and am wondering how to make the roost. I'd prefer a taller roost but am thinking on making it 3 feet high. I do plan on having poop boards underneath as well. My main question though is what I should use for the actual...
