My pullets are 5.5 months and I’m in Dutchess county nys. Supposed to hit single digits tomorrow night and then the following days possibly a real feel of negatives. I have a thick clear shower liner around the run. Do I need to worry about them being too cold? Negative temps? I feel good about...
Well, I tried to offer my hens leftover habanero before it went bad and they all shook their heads at me after a taste. I thought chickens have that taste receptor turned off, maybe not for salmon favorelles?
I don’t know where in the Hudson valley you are, but someone in lagrangeville has been spotting fisher cats... I don’t if that is strong enough but I do know they’re viscous.
For their first day altogether, since I can’t monitor all day and he is much larger still, I did rig a temporary partition out of an old baby gate. Once they get even bigger, I’ll have to make a better one to give them more space.
Thanks! I’m learning. My three pullets are 6 weeks old and my one cockerel is 10 weeks.
the coop is 16 Sq ft and the run is 40 sq ft. I have another thread with pics, but I’ll attach one here too.
Also a link to the page with more in depth pics...
Hi everyone,
I have one rooster who is about ten weeks old. He’s lonely and by himself currently. When will it be okay to introduce him to our hens who are six weeks old?
(He is older because our first hatchery order was all roosters and I rehomed three. Then we got attached to the one while...
I had to edit the above because I hit post too soon. For example the lip inside the pop door was a last minute addition because I read someone else’s post about bedding falling out and then slammed my head on the ground. Jk
also! This one is a big newbie flaw - See where the entrance door to...
More pics! Pop door is a pulley. I had calculated the side vents for four birds (4’x 4’ coop) but it looks large too me, so I added a flap that if weather gets intense (blizzard), I can drop it down and I have an extra flap to hang on inside of run if I ever need. Made a pvc feeder and used a...
Has anyone had success with creating a petition to change a town ordinance to allow for roosters? We rehomed all but one because we got attached and honestly the neighbors three tiny yapping dogs has got to be more annoying than what this guy will do when he’s old enough to doodle.
I read...
I have field bindweed and my 2 mo old roo just gobbled up a bunch of leaves. I’d love if bindweed is safe because I HATE it. And I’d gladly give him all of it I rip out daily. What’s the final consensus? Can I toss it into the run with the other weeds to scratch and eat? He just gobbled the...
ive spent my lunch break researching collars, but I don't know how realistic this idea is. For one, I have no idea what size to get for a SF. He hasn't even started crowing yet (only 6 weeks old), so we don't know how loud he will be or his frequency. If I had him begin now, would he be quieter...
Today my last boy gets picked up for his new home and I’m so sad. He’s really blossomed over night with the others rehomed. He wants all the attention. It really sucks the town of Poughkeepsie doesn’t allow Roos.
At least I don’t think they do... the ordinance says, “Keeping of roosters, ducks...
