    How level does the ground need to be?

    My yard is not level so my run is not level. My chickens don’t seem to care and I think it helps with drainage. Their coop has a crawl space under which is likely wider at the front than the back. Again I think they don’t care. The fence “walls” of the run follow the slope of the land.

    7 Rooter and 4 hens - need advice on how to handle this

    I added a couple of hens to my flock a couple of weeks ago. Brought them home one evening, they laid eggs the next morning. Not much chance of a rooster when you buy them at point-of-lay.

    Question regarding how you feed grit.

    I give my girls their grit on a plate separate from their food bowl. If they scratch it out, I figure they’ll find it on the ground, if they want it.

    Lots of good info here. I agree Except for the advice to peel the potatoes. Well, if they’re green, I’d peel but otherwise no peeling. My dad always said the best nutrients are just under the peel.

    There’s an anonymous review that says “The entire plant is edible and very beneficial to all species of animals.” Those stalks are so tough and almost thorny, I can’t imagine any species of animal eating them. Enlighten me if your chickens or pigs or sheep or ??? enjoy eating the stalks.
