Here are my latest. Alf a black mottled smooth and Dusty a mille Fleur frizzle. Do frizzles feather quicker or is thi an indication of something else? From stance and comb I think Alf is a Roo (early I know) but he stands tall and when my other cockerel is vocal he stands on guard.
Hello. I just thought I should share this as it has reduced my stress levels now I can see how she is and progress rather than intruding and playing statues with a bird even more stubborn than I am!
I put the Alfred Home security camera on an old phone (will need data or WiFi) and on an iPad...
I bit the bullet and moved them VERY carefully same orientation and carried the eggs in that position too. No external pips which was a surprise after all her commotion yesterday. Hen was not happy (understatement) and was more interested in the other hens outside at first. Sidney, the cockerel...
My dilemma is do I move her and the eggs now or wait to see if they hatch? I have no idea what is up with the 4 eggs under. Candles on day 18 and one looked close to hatch, two a few days off and the other smaller with veins. At day 13 they all looked the same!
HELP. It’s day 19 and she has been very active but it has been hot and mites have appeared again in their droves. I have protected her and the eggs and sprayed permethrin again. Twice. And I have squashed any I saw moving. I can’t see movement now. Should I move the hen and eggs (possibly...
Thank for replying. I’m. i lucked out and got some part incubated eggs at the same stage a few miles away that I picked up. REALLY careful drive home. After 24 hours under her I had a quick in nest check and there was movement. We are keeping everything crossed for Thursday.
Yes I changed and dusted the bedding too. However trying to treat the feisty broody was tough and may not have been effective. I’ll try and get some ivermectin as that sounds a lot easier 🥊🥊🥊
Hello. I am looking for some help here. I have a broody on day 12 and mites.
I have treated the nest box and roost (she is in the maternity wing), and her twice and they are still they are there. We used permethrin. I am worried that it won’t take many mites to kill/harm a chick if we are...
How refreshing to read a consideration of other points of view and genuine interest in another perspective. I today’s world this brings much needed hope. Thank you.
I’d love one of every colour but I Don dont think I’lol eat a away with that. I had a beautiful partridge (called Bjork) who I still miss. She chatted all the time - meep meep
Excited to pick up some hatching eggs tomorrow. I will get some Mille fleur, black mottled and blue, but can’t decide between blue mottled or blue splash. Which would you choose? I have lavender and black free ranging again (at last in UK). Thanks
Hello. I think I know the answer but feel like I need back up.
A beloved pekin, Toots, died recently and when the Wyandotte bantam went broody I thought it was an opportunity to try and hatch her last eggs. We have a lovely lavender pekin cockerel. I popped the last of Toot’s eggs under her...
Yes many said so and I hoped, but he is a happy and handsome boy, and once held will sette. I think may be quite unusual for a boy? He feeds his girls before himself...always. Quite the gentleman!
