    Help?!

Thanks for all the help and advice. It’s a learning process that’s for sure.

    Help?!

I’ve never heard the term splash for a colour before. 🤷🏻‍♀️I am new to chicks. I’ve only ever had ISA laying hens before this.

    Help?!

They weren’t supposed to be crossed. Each breed of chicken they have is in their own run/coop. I witnessed that myself. So idk what the deal is. I know between the 2 batches of chicks I have I ended up with way too many cockerels. 6/10 for my 7 week olds and by the looks of these at least 4-5...

    Help?!

I said there were 2 dark brown eggs that hatched. They were both yellow chicks which apparently can be a Wheaton maran. All of the other eggs were either blue or olive. It wasn’t me who called that chick a splash. I only referenced it that way because you did. There are 4 chicks with green legs...

    Help?!

That little one who was called a ‘splash’ hatched from a bright blue egg.

    Help?!

Each breed has their own space. I did a little tour of their ‘farm’ when I picked up the eggs.

    Help?!

The birds in the 6 pics I posted earlier are 5 weeks. I was curious to know how early pullets grow combs. I have some that are growing but are not red or only have a slight tinge of pink in them.

    Help?!

Are there any breeds in which the females grow combs early on?

    Help?!

That’s super interesting! I’m going to do some research now to learn more. I’m going to post a few more pics of the chicks we hatched from eggs I bought. Maybe you could help me with sexes if you think it’a possible? They are 5 weeks this week. I’m hoping the first one who’s an EE is a pullet...

    Help?!

Thank you, that’s exactly the mix. So farther down the line if that male barred rock/rir mix was to breed with either my rir pullet or one of those black pullets would it be the same situation? As I said I’m just learning the genetics of mixes and I appreciate you answering my questions!! 🙂

    Help?!

Thank you for explaining all of that!! So I have 2 black chicks from that same hatch. They both have some gold/brown/red around their necks. Not showing signs of red combs. Would these be females?
  14. BeezerC

    Help?!

Yes I know the red one is a cockerel. I ended up with 6 of my first 10 chicks being cockerels. I have a questionable Columbian Rock mix as well.

    Help?!

Why do people keep telling me he’s a she then? They say he’s the same colour as a pullet and he also has the black wash down his legs. I’m new to chicks and breeds so I appreciate the help lol.

    Help?!

Ok I have this little beauty. First thought it was a roo. Then posted pics in another place and the as told pullet. Today was told again that it’s a roo. 7 weeks old. Roo was a RIR, hen was Barred Rock which someone told me today means its a sex link and that if it was solid black it would be a...

    Hello all!!

I’ve only ever had ISA browns until recently I should add!
  18. BeezerC

    Hello all!!

I’m just starting to ‘experiment’ with different breeds. Are there certain breeds where the pullet grows a comb at the same rate as a cockerel?
  19. BeezerC

    Hello all!!

So my hatchlings are 4 weeks old now. There are a couple I can tell are definitely roos but I was wondering if you all could help me with a few others? Any input is appreciated! Thanks! 😊

    Another question!

I’m pretty happy with that success rate for my first time. I’d like to upgrade my incubator to something a little bigger for the next batch I do. 😊😊
