I agree that it is stressful. The coop has plenty of roosting space and is large so space isn’t the issue. There are lots of roosts in the run but I’m always leery no matter how safe the run that something can break through. I’ve never had that happen but there’s always a first. I will...
I think I’m going to build a smaller separate coop to have in the run for emergencies. It’s easy enough to section off the end of the run but I need something better than a dog crate.
They are 18 weeks old and the same size now. They’ve lived side by side separated by hardware cloth for two months. I’m putting them in at night now but they will not go in on their own. They are terrified and it’s like chasing cats trying to get them in.
They were in a crate in the sectioned off area and I really would like them in the bigger main coop. It’s just safer. The run is fully enclosed but the crate doesn’t provide enough protection from the weather.
Access is blocked but they will not go in the main coop. I literally am having to chase them down to put them in at night. I hope They’ll get it soon. They are afraid of the older hens. I say older but they are only 4 months older. They are definitely living as two separate flocks in the same...
I have two flocks of chickens that have been sharing a run separated by hardware cloth for weeks. They have now successfully integrated, although the new ones are definitely on the bottom. They are afraid of the older ones but no blood has been drawn. My problem is how to get them to go in the...
He doesn’t mess with the Brahmas because they are so big. The golden buff and leghorn get the brunt of it. My younger ones will all be smaller. I have 2 blue andalusians, 2 Creveceours and 1 Langshan. He’ll be on them. I just didn’t know if it was dangerous since they aren’t sexually mature.
Run is 24’ x 12’ I have them separated in the same run the smaller ones have about 4’ x 12’ of the run. The rooster is only aggressive in the morning, right out of the coop. That will most likely be the most worrisome time.
Thank you. He grabbed one of my Creveceours by the neck and pinned her when she slipped out. I got her before anything happened so I wasn't sure what he’d do.
Two of my flocks are about 8 weeks apart in age. The older of the two has a NHR rooster. I’m afraid to combine because I’m afraid the younger group, 12 weeks old, are too young and small to handle his testosterone. They have been in the same run separated by hardware cloth for several weeks. At...
I want to buy a small prefab coop for a sectioned off area of my run for integrating chicks/hospital wing, etc. There as so many on the market that are flimsy, etc. Has anyone bought a pre-made one that’s worth the money? Don’t want to break the bank. I don’t have time to build one from scratch...
Thank you! I thought so too but I got it from Meyer Hatchery and they said he looked like a RIR. So, I was a bit confused. He’s only about 14 weeks old.
