Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

Also found this fairy egg in the run yesterday. I never find eggs in the run. That's todays egg so far to it's left

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

Hazel Have to tag @featherhead007 with this one! She is setting herself apart a bit, and there's adult Buckeye feathers lying about in her favorite corner. But she molted some in June...thought she was done, it seemed to be a partial molt...and she had a flare-up of her respiratory issue at the...

Nicely done article, good information, and great pictures, thank you! What is the container in the back of the last picture, it might be Pepper looking over the edge at leaves? Have you used that for a small dustbath?

To cover a part of my run I have put four step-in posts (angled out for pulling strength) and attached a small 4x4 or 6x6 tarp to them.

Yes, it’s up to you, do what you’re comfortable doing. Here a “problem dog” is defined as a dog that’s a problem. It’s not loose dogs on your own property, which is legal here, it’s when it’s loose on the road, chasing cars or bicyclists, or on someone else’s property being a problem. Yes, you...

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

You have a beautiful dirt floor though. Great for digging! You could lay cardboard or something like rubber mats down where you want to walk after smoothing it over and packing it down. Then take a shovel and loosen areas to the sides, and especially in sunny spots. That would make those places...

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

Okay, that’s a plan, but here’s an action you could take now: contact the dog control person and explain what’s been happening. Explain that the dog walker was there for the first incident (it wasn’t a dog getting loose and killing something a mile away), and yet came back again, and it happened...

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

So sorry, it’s very sad. Will you report this to the local dog officer? A public scolding might have some effect. Does this farmer care? Find out. This dog may not be the only one you have issues with. After this dog dies, eventually and by whatever means, the owner will get and not-train them...

Thank you, she's living in the present and it's a reminder for me to do that, too!

Mugs eye comparisons Isabel, notice how you can see her right cornea. Picabo Brow, not sure Not sure if I’ve named her Isabel again. Dirt on her eyelid I think? Diane Annie, she has prominent eye skin. She also has some Wattles For Wednesday!

To me they are both bulgy, with one bigger than the other. She hasn't grown into them as far as I can tell. Chickens often just step into the fray, everybody objects, then resume their business!

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

I haven't noticed her surrounding tissue is swollen, will look again, it's not like Hazel's was....The vet didn't diagnose her, just said her heart rate seemed normal but fast (compared to Brow, a very calm chick) and noted the dozing, and said to watch for bullying and protect her. For Hazel...

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

I feel sad / helpless about Isabel today, so I made a video of her dust bathing to help remind me she's probably not having a bad chicken life. She's mostly in the middle. She has the dark coloring. The phone made the sunlit feathers orange of her sister, strange! Here's some pictures, I...

    Chicken Breed Focus - Buckeye

Do you think there’s a correlation between broodiness and old or new line / egg production? The first 4 Buckeye hens I have had never went broody. They were hatchery stock (My Pet Chicken)

    Electrify metal run

I’d advise you to encircle your run area with an electric poultry fence for rats. A single strand won’t be effective except for larger animals, you’ll want netting. But you can’t do what you suggest due to the way these things work. The run wire - the skirt, the support posts - will conduct...

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

They came back again to it. It's like they found a gold mine of bugs. Hazel sounded like she was dust bathing, making all these happy cooing boks. I look up from my work, no, not dust bathing, no motherlode of bugs, she is just eating from the bin and scratching the ground with two others!
