    Flock Genders?

Yeah I had a third pullet but she was killed by our dogs. I’d have to get rid of the sebright cockerels because that dUccle is my baby. 😢

    Flock Genders?

Hi all! My babies are between 7-8 weeks old now and starting to get their combs in. What’s your guesses on genders? Here are my guesses: 1 & 2 Males? (Sebrights) 3 Female (Old English Game Bantam) 4 Female? (Sebright) 5 Male (d’Uccle)

How long do they stay scared?

    Thanks a bunch @sourland i appreciate the insight! 😊

How long do they stay scared?

Gah, that would explain things! Yes I’m down reaching into my brooder box to pick them up and hold them and pet them. I’ll hold my hand out but they only seem interested if I have some worms in my hand, and even then they just snatch them and run away. Guess I need to practice my patience with...

How long do they stay scared?

I try to handle my chicks multiple times a day every day but the little featherheads still don’t seem to trust me! I’ve had them about 2 weeks. How long do baby chicks stay wary of their humans? I want to love on them but don’t want them to have baby chick heart attacks!

    Potential Low Waste Feeder?

Hi all! I got this baby pig feeder at Rural King for about $18 and the babies seem to be taking to it rather well! I’m thinking this may be an option for reduced waste once they get older and start slinging feed? Since it can be mounted to a coop wall by just sliding it onto some nails or screws...

Bantam Assortment! What do I have?

Bump to see if anyone may know your babies. @Overo Mare helped me ID mine!

What did you do with your flock today?

I took the babies out for their second “field trip” and let them in their run for about an hour and a half. Also showed them the hen house! (**Disclaimer: I’m aware my coop and run are too small for 6 bantams and am currently awaiting my order for some expansion supplies to come in, which...

    Is George Stressed?

He seemed to be eating just fine from what all I saw, I haven’t kept track their individual drinking though. I got them from Tractor Supply Co out of a bin of “assorted straight run bantams” and they all (except for one) had pasty vent when I got them home.

    Is George Stressed?

Awesome explanation! Much appreciated. They’re sleeping at the edge of the lamplight so I think most are ok. George is also a bit more peppy today as well

    OEGB babies, what variation?

Any guesses on what variation of OEGB these kids may be? First two pics are George. Second two pics are Fred.

    Will do! Thanks!

    Is George Stressed?

The digital meat therm. Said it’s only 78 degrees in the hottest part of the brooder! That can’t be right!?

    Is George Stressed?

Actually would a meat thermometer work?? I have an extra digital one, I just thought about it! And yes it’s a 250 W. The brooder is actually rather large and there is room for him to move away, but maybe it’s like me and doesn’t have the common sense god gave a rock. 😓

    Babies’ First Field Trip

They did mostly hide beneath the ramp for the majority of the time they spent out there! 😅

    Is George Stressed?

I’m actually not sure of the temp, and I’m using a heat lamp which I know isn’t ideal but that’s all the supply store had. Our house itself is around 70-72 degrees F, and it’s significantly warmer under the bulb of the lamp. They did all come from the same place though, same bin and everything...

    Is George Stressed?

George is my smallest baby, one of two OEGBs in my little flock, and never wants anything to do with running after treats or me holding them. Also, he doesn’t often lay with his peers. I’ve had them for 5 days now, could s/he still be stressed from the new environment? Or perhaps s/he is at the...

    First time being outdoors

Mine got some outdoor time today as well! I think mine are just 2 weeks old at most though. They mainly huddle together beneath the henhouse ramp 😅
