Poorly duckling - loss of appetite, lethargic

Unfortunately the duckling passed away. The vet said she suspected it was Aspergillios - which it must have contracted before we rescued it as all the reasons it could pick it up in captivity didn't apply to us and Aspergillios takes 3-5 days for symptoms to come out. If I had got it to a vet...

Poorly duckling - loss of appetite, lethargic

Thanks Lydia. That was our first point of call when we found it on Friday. COVID19 has limited staff numbers on such places atm.. One advised I should leave the duckling - let Mother Nature take its course, and the next closest one didn’t answer any calls 😢 I’ve found a vet that specialises in...

Poorly duckling - loss of appetite, lethargic

Small amounts of eating and drinking last - more drinking when encouraged. But walking around, hunched and slow but looking like it was on the up. we even had a few normal looking stools. Today we are back to lethargic and barely moving. It is taking water when brought over to it but other than...

    Ducking Help

No not at all, im so glad I am getting some solid and honest advise. I haven’t tried to open it’s mouth and force feed it. Just gently dipping it’s beak in the water in vain hope it would open, or at least take a little in. I’m not sure how but I think my thread posted twice so I’m getting very...

Poorly duckling - loss of appetite, lethargic

I really hope so, we have been such nervous wrecks all day. We told ourselves on day one that theirs a high risk with a rescue but she was doing so well up until today. I’ve been reading up on all the possibilities of what it could be and scaring myself too.

Poop very watery but that’s to be expected, duckling went off her food before her water. please excuse my switching from him to her, through out these messages - it’s so hard labelling duckling when you just don’t know the sex 🤣

Poorly duckling - loss of appetite, lethargic

Hi, We have some positive news! Duckling has started eating and drinking again. No way near the amount it should be but I’m feeling optimistic. It tired very easily and is still very weak so we are putting it back to bed after a little feed and drink and then encouraging it again after 15-20...

Poorly duckling - loss of appetite, lethargic

My partner has come home with a basking spot lamp. It’s pretty bright 🙈 but at least we can get some regulated heat - trying to figure out a way to dull the light down. Baby just took a little food and water whooo!! Still lethargic, no energy at all 😢 it’s gone back to sleep I will try some...

Poorly duckling - loss of appetite, lethargic

Thank you for your reply. the poor ducking is not even drinking now. Even with encouragement. Any advice on how to get some fluid into him would be much appreciated, he has turned very weak. Our brooder is just a plastic tub. With a ventilated lid - obviously he was a rescue so we had to make...

    Ducking Help

Well he is currently nested under my fleece under my arm pit 🙈 My thermometer says 30•c and in his box at night with the water bottle and jumper it’s 40•c. We do have a lid partially Over his container to keep the heat in but this temperature will still drop slowly as the water bottle cools.

    Ducking Help

Thank you very much. I will certainly give these options a try. My partner has gone out searching for a new bulb for our heat lamp however only garden centres that sell food are open in England at the moment. Fingers crossed he can find something. Electrolytes Also be useful. it is now refusing...
