    103 degrees, think they're dead?

Update: 14 out of 30 chicken eggs and 5 out of 5 quail eggs hatched. I guess the verdict is that a day or two of 130.5 is OK. There were 3 chicks that hatched and then died (so technically 17/30 hatched) but I don't know if that was in any way related to the temperature.

Do you have a Little Giant? Do you love or hate it?

Even when I have my little giant holding a steady temperature for a day, it will still occasionally bug out and roast/chill my eggs. Our indoor temperature is stable. Might just be my unit tho.

    103 degrees, think they're dead?

I had a couple nights where I woke up and my Little Giant had decided to run the temperature up- once to 103.1 and once to 103.7. I don't know how long they were at that temperature. They are in lockdown as of today, so we'll see if any of those hatch.

Do you have a Little Giant? Do you love or hate it?

I have one and it has some difficulty with maintaining temperatures with it. There were a couple of times I woke up and the temp was up to 103.7... not sure if my eggs will hatch. I have to adjust the knob, wait 20 minutes, adjust again, etc, until I could stabilize it. If I spend the time...

    Which incubator to buy?

My Little Giant incubator provides somewhat unreliable heating and the temperature is difficult to adjust. How easy is it to adjust the humidity in the Genesis 1588? Can you add a dish of water without interfering with the egg turning mechanism? Mahonri- does the turner turn hard enough to...

    Tophatch vs Genesis 1588

Can anyone say how easy it is to adjust humidity in the top hatch incubator? Does it have a water reservoir or do you put a dish of water in? Does it have an automated egg turning option? How do you add humidity to the Genesis w/ egg turner? Can it rest on the turner without interfering...

    Straight run vs. pullets....

Most males are a pound or two heavier than females, and should have more meat. So I guess if someone wants chickens for both eggs and meat (as many do) that's a good option. Females lay eggs, and all but 1-2 males go in the pot. The main poultry hatchery in my area sells straight runs about...

    From Brooder to Cage

If they are in the garage, maybe they could be moved to cages and still have a heat bulb turned on a corner of the cage? If they are piled up on top of eachother in the light, they are too cold, and put em back in the brooder.
