the chicken coop has become infested with fleas when it finally rained in south texas and they are all over the chickens and coop. what can i do beside DE to get rid of them, they are really attacking the combs of the chickens and are making some of them go bald.
Up date time. what ever was hanging out of the chick has dried up and is starting to heal. his eye which was attacked by fire ants has finally opened and now he runs around in his box. my wife checked on the other chicks and picked one up to see if it is male or female, the momma got mad and...
yesterday i heard a little cheeping noise from under a broody hen and discovered a new chick. twenty minutes later another hatched and that was it for the night. i checked on them this morning and the first chick didn't look right so i checked her out. she had a couple of fire ants on her eye...

i was watching my chicken run around and found one limping so i inspected it. the left foot was swollen between the toes and ball of the foot, no external injuries evident, no mites, scales looked good on the feet. the other chicken, thinking one was getting a treat and they were not, started to...
she is doing all right for now. i pulled the feathers off and quartered it and fed it raw to my dogs,(yorkies), and my cats had a few bites. i feed my dogs raw chicken every so often so it was a win/win situation. next rooster i get to use the .50 cal black powder rifle:D.
i had 3 roosters that would chase all the hens around and gang up on them sometimes. on saturday one rooster wouldn't release a feather footed hen which caused the other two to grab at her and try to force him off for their turn but he would lose his grip and fought his way back on. i broke it...
i read where people say not to throw potato peels to chickens but i have always put them and alvacado peels into my compost bin where the chickens eat it with no problems. they do free range all day and eat everything else but unless your only feeding them peels i wouldn't worry about it to much.
my mother in law made a batch of peanut brittle that didn't set right so i warmed it up adding scratch grains, their feed, oatmeal, boss, and frozen blueberries. it put it all into the oven again for about twenty min at 350 deg. then put it into a loafpan to cool. i put it out in the coop last...
how many rooosters per chickens should you have? i currently have 17 birds and four are roosters, two will end up being sent to freezer camp in the next week, will two left, be all right or should i take out three of them.
she has gone broody so i grabed her off the eggs and found 24 of them. iput them in a bowl wrapped in a towel and took them inside to candle them, 7of them i was not able to see through so i returned them back to the nest, the rest were water tested and seemed to be good. the questionable eggs...
i just got a call from my wife telling me she found the nest of her easter egger and it has a bunch of eggs in it. how do you do the water test to see if they are good and should i candle them before i do the water test.
i have three girls that are of age to lay eggs. one RIR started last week in a bucket, the other two (RIR, EE) go into the bucket but don't do anything. last friday i didn't find any eggs in the bucket so i looked around and found a nest of 3 eggs, 2 brown and one green under the shed where they...
just thought i would introduce my self here. i have 2 americanas and 2 rir about 3 weeks old, and four yorkshire terriers to occupy my time. i live in a neighborhood with very nosy neighbors but they will get over the fact of my chickens. i got the chickens because my slightly autistic son would...
