I have them in with the adults and also smaller babies. The adults have their own coop and babies have their own coop but they all share a large run. There are multiple water stations and inside each coop is an age related food, chick starter in the baby coop, adult feed in the adult coop. There...
They were about a day old. Less than a week. Everything was smooth until lately. Could it be heat exhaustion? None of my other chickens are exhibiting any signs of coccidiosis. Just the favs. They’re a cold hardy breed and it’s been high 80s lately. They aren’t panting. Their combs are pale but...
I already had some corid on hand so I already dosed them. They seem to all be drinking on their own but I will give them a little orally too just to be safe
Back in April, I got 7 salmon faverolles. 2 days ago, I went outside to check on them, feed and water them. I noticed one of them laying down, which in general is normal, but her neck was fluffed up. She was so weak she could barely stand and wouldn’t eat anything. She would drink. All she...
I think i’m going to euthanize the egg. i candled it and there’s another crack in it. i had it removed from the hen because she wasn’t entirely devoted to it. so i put it in my incubator. i had been candling it and tonight there’s a huge web of cracks that wasn’t there before. the color of the...
9/10 for me. Perfect babies. I can’t wait to get more pictures of them all dry. It’s crazy. I got 8 black/black and white and only 1 yellow chick. Both dads were black when they were born so I have no clue who the father is. I love seeing their true colors pop up once all their gunk is dried.
Took the turner out yesterday. Set them all up in a specific pattern. checked this morning and they were still in that pattern. came home from school and they’ve moved. still close to the pattern but some were turned and rolled too close to each other. They are trying to pierce the air cell.
I have one egg that is not as developed as the rest. I candles day 18 and they were very nicely developed. And then I candled one of them and it was still clear. The yolk area was dark like one had been forming but quit at some point. But I candled it and I swear it’s twitching. Just my eyes or...
I candled again tonight and it’s moving around a whole lot so I really hope it will survive. It’s shown it’s will to live. My hen would leave the nest to meet her needs and come back but sit in a different nest. I’m not sure if she got confused by the abundance of eggs or what but I have since...
Sad news. My broody broke her egg. It was maybe a week in already and she cracked it. A hairline fracture, and a little chunk dented in. It did not penetrate the membrane so I covered it in unscented candle wax. I really hope it makes it.
can anyone help me figure out what this is? i’ve never seen something like it. maybe a meat spot? I hope not a blood clot. it’s not attached to the chick so it’s not a body part I think.
