I have a buff orphington that we brought home about a week ago. She is approximately 12 months old and lays every other day usually. The past 2 eggs have been cracked when I went to get them out of the nesting box. I was down there today when she layed and she is moving all the pine shaves...
Each Roost is 78" long.. One roost was around 13-14 inches from the wall and I believe the other was 9-10 but I would have to measure to be sure... There is about 21 inches in between.. All the chickens had been roosting well at night but we did consider moving them a bit to even out the space...
They have 13 feet of roosting space, 3 nesting boxes, 35 sq ft enclosed and a fenced area that is around 180 sq feet.. for 8 chickens that is over the recommendations right? They have not had any bullying or fighting issues up to this point.. We live in East Tennessee and have very mild winters...
We had originally bought the homestead coop from tractor supply but realized quickly that it wouldn’t fit what amount of chickens we wanted and the inside tray fell apart after 2 months... My husband and I are not good at carpentry but we found a way to add enough enclosed space for our...
We actually closed this “ coop “ in to make it a 7ft by almost 5ft enclosure.. it has 2 rows of 78” roosting and 3 nesting boxes. I just didn’t to take pictures of the finished product yet as we are adding trimming and a new base
We have actually been working since yesterday to completely remodel this coop as we wanted more space. It is entirely enclosed now and the nesting boxes have been moved to an addition we build on to the outside wall. By doing this it added about 13" more length to a coop that was 6.5 feet...
Anyone have any photos of your expansion on this style? We are thinking of doing something similar and would love ideas for layout if we basically just use the exterior as a frame.
Thank you so much for the info! Our current coop is 7x5. We are actually going to work on re-configuring it slightly today to push the nesting boxes back outside the coop to give alittle extra space inside. I just have to finish up building the enclosure and lid to attach to our coop.
We currently have 6 chickens which are 3.5-5 months old. None of which have laid eggs yet. I am going this evening to purchase 2 buff orphingtons and 1 ameraucana which are 11-12 months old. How should I introduce them? Is this too much of an age difference to add to the same area? We have...
Thanks so much for your comment! I am going to try working on the roosting spots alittle this weekend. I think raising them more will help... The smell is certainly not bad its more so just having the poop all over the wood inside the coop that drives me crazy lol
