Thanks for the warm welcome! We have 1 each of the following: FBCM, GLW, BLRW, NHR, BO, BA, and a BR x EE mix. They are 7.5 weeks and hopefully are all pullets.
I would lean pullet. I recently had the same question regarding a six week old barred rock that turned out to be a cockerel. You can view my pics for comparison here. I hope this helps! :)
UPDATE: After sending pics to the breeder who also confirmed that our chick is a cockerel, we were able to return for a barred easter egger pullet.
Hello Friends! We purchased what we thought were 7 pullets (all different breeds). I’m fairly certain that 6 are pullets but not sure about the Barred Rock. She/he is turning out to be the dominate one of the flock and routinely pecks the others.
Would you please provide feedback regarding the...
I did not know that! Currently, we have them in separate brooders (large tubs); three in one and four in the other. I’ve noticed that when we combine them to clean out a brooder, the grouped chicks tend to stick together.
Do you think they will naturally separate if we get another coop?
We hadn’t considered doing so but it may come to that. They are currently 4 weeks old so I hope we have at least 2 months before it becomes too crowded. We are purchasing or building a larger, permanent run. It is my hope that we can add another small Coop to go inside said run.
Thanks for your feedback, Mayakovsky. I will definitely share our experience. We are thinking of purchasing/building a large run that will house another Eglu. It appears that the largest run Omlet has is 9’x12’
