Broody Silkie with adopted chicks 😍

Thanks to everyone who responded. I opened their coop to let them free range a few days ago for the first time, and they’ve integrated beautifully :)

Broody Silkie with adopted chicks 😍

They are regular size chickens. They always sleep in separate coops, but free range together during the day. So far it hasn’t been a problem, but she definitely knows to stay out of the big girls‘ way…

Silkies 9 weeks, hen or roo?

Yes fingers crossed!! Rockie ended up being a broody little thing. We gave her a couple day olds a few weeks ago and she’s the best Mama! Now we’re back in the waiting game to see if we have boys or girls 💜 Keep me posted how it turns out for you!

Broody Silkie with adopted chicks 😍

Hi everyone, Just wanted to share that my notoriously broody silkie Rockie has been doing an excellent job raising two chicks I gave her as day olds. We recently lost 2 hens to predators and were not feeling up to the task of raising chicks inside this late in the year. Rockie has taken this...

Silkies 9 weeks, hen or roo?

Mr. Adam found his voice a few mornings ago and got to move to a friend‘s nearby farm. We miss him, but not his early morning song 🤣. Rockie is definitely a pullet 💗

Silkies 9 weeks, hen or roo?

Update: Our little ones are 15 weeks old today, still as adorable and flighty as ever… We are still hopeful that Rocky (the blue one) is a pullet, while we’ve started calling Blackberry by his new name - Mr. Adam. 🤣 Take a look and let me know what you all think! Thanks :)

    Sick chicken, please help!

Hi there, for anyone interested: It’s been 3 months and Patty is still with us! She’s slower than the rest of the flock, always the last to come out of the coop in the morning (like 30 minutes after I open it!), but she has nevertheless maintained her rank in the pecking order and even started...

Silkies 9 weeks, hen or roo?

Do these help? Rockie’s comb looks significantly smaller than Blackberry’s. I’m hopeful she’s a hen, we can’t keep cockerels in our neighborhood… 🤞🏼

Silkies 9 weeks, hen or roo?

Hi experts, I know silkies are notoriously difficult to sex early on, but these little ones are 9 weeks and I’m hoping for some educated guesses. Also not the best pics, they’re pretty jumpy… Meet Rockie: And Blackberry: I have my suspicions, but would love to hear what you all think! Thanks!!

    Sick chicken, please help!

Thank you. We’re in Colorado, so none of the states mentioned in this article. Patty is still alive, but hasn’t really improved. She eats, drinks and sits outside in the sun during the day, but seems to definitely have lost her zest for life. My husband thinks she’s suffering, but I can’t seem...

    Sick chicken, please help!

Thank you for your response! With internal laying, wouldn’t we see egg like droppings? Also, would it be harmful to give her antibiotics in case of an infection? It’s so hard to know what to do.

    Sick chicken, please help!

Oh wow. Yes that sounds exactly like what we’re experiencing! I’m thinking of taking her outside today, once it warms up a bit (we’ve had subzero temps at night), to see how she does in her environment and with her flock. It’s just so sad, I can tell she’s in so much discomfort when she tries to...

    Sick chicken, please help!

24 hrs later, calcium, D, baths… but no change :( She’s still acting exactly the same, eating and drinking with encouragement, pooping normally, but mostly sitting down. When she does get up, her tail is down and she seems almost unable to walk. I’m just so sad for her and don’t know what else...

    Sick chicken, please help!

Ok thank you! She gobbled it all up with some cottage cheese! I will wait a couple hours and then try a bath again!

    Sick chicken, please help!

I did the bath and lube last night and added electrolytes to her water… But will def try the calcium and D separately! Silly question, but do I just crush up my own supplements or do I need to buy something poultry specific?

    Sick chicken, please help!

One of my 2 yr old hens, Patty, started acting weird yesterday. She didn’t come out of the coop at first in the morning and when she did, she mostly just sat around. Over the course of the day she got worse. By afternoon she was doing the penguin stance and could barely put one foot in front of...

    Silkie babies 🖤🤍

Thanks everyone! They are so quiet compared to any other chicks we’ve ever had… Hoping that’s normal 😅
