    Mental Impact of Fox Attack?

Hello, About a week ago I lost 4 of my 6 chickens (pullets) to a fox attack. I am trying to replace them ASAP so the other 2 are not too lonely, although they seem extremely bored and a bit different than before. For example they crave attention a lot more and come running much quicker than...

    CANNOT ID CHICKEN

oh okay, good to know. All features match except that lacing so it seems very likely. Thank you! Here are a couple photos of the two of them. The one described in this forum is the gold laced one, and the other is the one that looks identical to what you suggested is southern rambler.

    CANNOT ID CHICKEN

So first of all, it seems like the group consensus is that it was a He and not a she. I had my doubts when TCS said they were all hens. Does anyone disagree? The breeds we have narrowed down to are: 1) Ayam Cemani or a mix with it (possible silkie, side note, what distinguishing features...

    Don’t let the fox win

They say roosters look you in the eye and this one certainly did that sometimes. She/he was very aware of surroundings as well so I think you are right. I did not notice any saddle feathers however but all other signs point to rooster. Those are not allowed in my town so it makes this much...

    Don’t let the fox win

I am sorry for your loss, I will be getting justice for the chickens ASAP. If this is the case, and it was a mixed breed, could an expert ID it still? She was special.

    Don’t let the fox win

I did suspect it may have been a rooster in progress, I thought TSC did not sell roosters but I am very new to this. The comb and waddle formed more profondly and sooner than all the rest so you could be right. The 3rd did have feathered feet.

    CANNOT ID CHICKEN

this is the best I could salvage from my previous photos: She had 5 toes on both feet, not sure if this was deformity. And they are completely black as shown. The comb and waddle was also completely black as well as the beak (except for very tip of beak). hopefully this helps

    Don’t let the fox win

Hello all, Yesterday I woke up to the worst news a chicken owner can receive - a fox made a meal from 4 out of my 6 chickens. I was devastated and am having trouble moving on. I just set up the coop and moved them outside about a week ago. I blame myself for letting them out too early in the...
