The silkie is actually top rooster. The larger rooster is one I got at TSC and was supposed to be a pullet but surprise. We were going to see how it worked out until I either found another home for him or he became aggressive. Today he bit my husband and I refuse to have an aggressive bird.
My flock consisted of 14 birds. My older birds consist of a silkie rooster and 3 americauna hens, a leghorn or ISA brown rooster and 4 of his own hens, a bantam rooster and 4 hens of his own. My question is by culling the larger rooster how long will it take for the silkie to take on the 4...
My silkie americauna mix has two toe nails on one toe. We just noticed it today. Never seen or if it before. I know silkies have 5 toes, is it possible she just didn’t grow the other toe. She’s got 4 toes on her foot.
I have a BA/EE chick that’s about 3 weeks old now. Kind of hoping the EE mix makes it a less hyper bird since I do not free range my flock. Does anyone have pics of crosses? Would love to see some.
Thank you. I’m looking at pics I’m thinking you’re right. Will be an interesting addition to my flock. Hoping I’ve got at least a couple hens. Will find a new home for the roo if that’s what it turns out to be.
Congrats on becoming a new chicken family. The page here has some great tips and tricks and everyone is a wealth of information. Hope you enjoy your visit here :)
They are pretty solid. Funny how this batch looks so much different than the last batch. Picked up more of the silkie genes than the Ameraucana genes. Out of the 5 I hatched this week 4 have the 5 toes.
