    Turkey sexing help?

Can anyone advise me on the sexes of my turkeys? I am afraid I have 2 toms and if that's the case I'll just have to get some hens! They are about 3-4 months old now if that matters. Thank you so much!

    TSC chix-up strikes again!

The ONE TIME my husband calls me and ask if I want chicks! That will never happen again! Definitely now that the dreaded tractor supply (at least ours) gave him a jumble of idk what. Which brings me here. I thought I was getting cream legbar (this one ticked me off the most as it's my unicorn...

Official BYC Poll: Which of These Breeds Is Your Favourite?

The top of my list currently is my favorelles and turkens! I do prefer my sf roo over my hen as he's much more personable then her. My turken Gladys is the absolute most social bird I have , always underfoot no matter where I go. An unlikely runner-up is my australorp. I didn't realize how...

Mille fleur or plain old EE bantams?

I bought these birds last year as Mille fleur cochin bantams. As soon as they laid , they brooded. I decided to let them sit on 15 eggs , all but 2 hatched and lost few due to chicks just dying for no apparent reason. I'm leaning towards trampling. Getting back on track , I'm curious if anyone...

    NPIP dead end?

I cannot find anything about how to actually get certified AI/NPIP or how to become a tester myself. I have looked for workshops , followed leads from previous posts here , googled until I couldn't Google anymore but there's no number , email, application , nothing. Is there something I'm...

    Feeding chickens advice

Thank you very much! Thanks , I suppose I'll be going with all flock and oyster shell as well. I have 3-maybe even 5 roosters atm and actually didn't even think about layer not being ok for them! Mine don't really seem to freak over scratch as much. They love mealworms but I find scratch left...

    Feeding chickens advice

Thank you! I had heard scratch was for treats and not everyday feeding so I was obviously shocked to be told I should be feeding it as a main food source. If all seems well , and my birds are healthy and happy , I think ill just keep doing it the right way = my way. 😉

    Feeding chickens advice

My SO is arguing with me that I feed my chickens too much. That they only need to be fed once daily , and that instead of starter , I should be feeding them scratch mixed with layer feed because thats how his friend feeds his 4 chickens -who are grown and have been laying for quite some time...

    Introducing chicks to older chicks

Oh awesome! I've added more feed & waterers all around the run , set up some hiding spots and put the silkies back out they seem much happier being back with their flock. I hope I didn't do more harm by separating them from the others overnight but I will be keeping an eagle eye on them...

    Introducing chicks to older chicks

I cleaned out the old chips and added extra just incase some chicks decided to sleep on the ground instead since that's what they've been doing in the brooders even with roosts provided. All chicks total are at least 5 weeks old at the youngest.

    Introducing chicks to older chicks

The highs during the day are mid nineties, lows at night mid to upper 70s but I swear it feels like mid 80s to me. The run area is roughly 145 sf. The coop is smaller but fits them all comfortably for now until we can expand hopefully this weekend. It is also water tight with ventilation and...

    Introducing chicks to older chicks

Thank you! I am about to get out and figure some new things to put in , we have goats as well so I do have hay bales already! The swings will be replaced with boards for the bigger ones to fly up to if they choose , and ill be adding some chicken tents for the smaller ones to hide under for...

    Introducing chicks to older chicks

Thank you! I have multiple feeders and waterers , I did end up moving the ones pictured to each end of the run but im about to go add some more and a few hiding spots as well. The hurricane provided us with plenty of materials i can repurpose for that lol 😒 the coop is on the smaller side but we...

Official BYC Poll: Which of These Breeds Is Your Favourite?

I chose orpington although I do not have any , the jubilee orpington was the reason I wanted chickens to begin with. Theyre so beautiful! And orpingtons are raved about over their temperament more than any other breed I've researched. I hope to eventually own a few JOs but until then my personal...

    Introducing chicks to older chicks

They did fine most of the time unless they wandered over to the bigger group alone , then they got pecked a few times and id herd them back to their end of the run where all was well again. The only real worry for me was the 2 small black silkies that are obviously much younger than all my other...

    Introducing chicks to older chicks

Thank you! The two groups roost separately so far but I did go ahead and put all but the silkies in the coop together tonight. I just worried because most of the silkies are so tiny still. But if you think its best i will try them in the coop tomorrow night!
