So she was OK through the night the couple times we checked on her. This AM she has a egg membrane sticking out, so it's a compacted egg we think. Gave her a warm soak and at the vets office now waitingto be seen.
Yes, we brought her in the house and she was walking all over and even jumped out of our arms 3 times. Could it be she was sleepy and just disoriented? We have her in a huge plastic bin with pine shavings and she appears to be sleeping in a corner of it. Just not sure what to think of it all.
Hello, we have a Easter egger who was falling off the roost like she couldn't keep her balance. We brought her in the house and she did eat some meal worms and was walking around the house ok. She seems ok holding her and can't see any visible trauma. She was fine all day that I noticed. Not...
That's not feasible to do currently. The coop it's self hasn't had condensation nor do I smell ammonia or anything. I am adding a 36x5 vent on the back below the current one, still should be well above the roosting bar. Will start here for now.
Well it looked like the start of it, white-ish on our green egger and our Australorp. We put some bag balm on their combs, which the of course is black from my raised garden they are going into. I made winter area for them in the garden.
I think they maybe got the frostbite on the days it...
I have not, I have read so many conflicting things about heating the coop. I was at one point opting for a dog house heater thats safe and would be mounted so not near the girls or pine shavings, have also been looking at the Sweeter Heater to put above the roosting bar. Not sure of either as...
Hello, I live in MN and we have some cold nights here, a few nights already at -5 and worried about the nights and days that will hit -20 or worse. I insulated my coop with reflective insulation roll material and stacked hay bales arounf the bottom and sides as much as possible. The...
Thanks, I assumed as much. They chase them away some now but no chasing them down and attacking. Barely see them even peck them, but that may be because the chick's are too fast 😅
Hello,
We are integrating our two 10 week old chick's to our 6 month old flock. We set them up in separated spaces for about a week on and off and then let them be together a bit. Due to weather here in MN we put them together sooner than we wanted. For the most part the older girls chase them...
I rented a trencher this summer and put in conduit to run electric. I was getting ready to have it hooked up but my guy had a stroke so its a no go till spring. So I ran a 100ft heavy duty extension cord out to the coop and plugged in a water heating pan. Sad to say I an excited to see if it...
We had 6 all different breeds but our Silkie turned out to be a roo so we had to find him a new home with a friend on a farm. Here are the original 6 that are 6 months old.
We promised my son if we had to give up the Silkie do to being a rooster we'd get him a new girl. So we got 2 babies who...
This past weekend I built this over my raised garden so they have an extra area out of the snow and wind. Put a bunch of grass and mulch in there for them to play in. Tomorrow when it's a little warmer I am putting up a swing in their main run.
Here's my insulation job a few weeks ago...
The baby's were ok this morning. My daughter was concerned so she got up at sunrise to check on them. The older girls came out and walked on the snow and went right back in :lau. The baby's actually came out all the way to the house, assuming they haven't associated the coop as home yet.
Yeah winter is mostly here I think in our area. My girls have just started laying except for our Easter egger. They also have finally made friends with our viszla :yesss:
