    Impatient Momma

I think Frittata is getting close to laying, she is squatting and talking up a storm. She yells at me when I try to clean the coup haha. I feel like it will be a few days, but I don't want to over eggcite myself if she is still a couple weeks away. So let me know what you think, when will I get...

    Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

Silkies get a bad rap for the following: "Looks like a dust mop" "Too hard to maintain" "Poor immune system" "Dumber than rocks" "0 predator awareness" These are all things I find special about my Silkie and maybe share the same qualities! haha

    Gender?

Here is a photo of the day I got Fluffy, about 10 weeks ago. The person I got her from said they were 5 months, I am far from a chicken expert but I don't believe that! My best guess was around 10 weeks old just from other silkie photos I have seen.

    Gender?

Oh I am silly,I never thought to have someone hold Fluffy while I grab a photo! I will try to get one tonight, I like the debate and reasoning though so in the mean time.. since this was posted lots of feet feathers have popped up, no spurs though I feel quite often, the hens all pick on him/her...

    Gender?

It is the same silkie.. just different times of days and locations make the color look different I guess. I will try to get my good camera out so I can zoom in without scaring Fluffy. Thanks!

    Gender?

Hello, I posted a while ago when I first got my Silkie. She was sold to me as a 5 month old, but I suspect that wasn't quite accurate. I have had her 5 weeks now and was just wondering if anyone can guess her gender better now. The camera is a very scary thing, so these are the best photos I...

    Am I a silkie.. and am I a hen?

An update just in case anybody was curious (I always am haha)... I still have no idea what the actual ages are but I put them on grower food and gave them hen boost. They both seem to look better (the silkie has gotten so fluffy) and are getting along with their new sisters. No cock-a-doodles so...

    Bullying or Pecking Order?

Once my husbands plants are done for the year we plan to rebuild. I will use all these techniques and give them more space. As an update (I like them so others might too) the littles and bigs are all getting along. My only concern is at night Fluffy Butt (the silkie) sleeps alone while the other...

can chickens do a chicken head count?

Haha! Great post, I have wondered the same thing. I only have 4 hens but when I am outside with them while they free range I constantly see my rooster halfway between both groups of ladies and if anyone ends up out of sight he gets all tall and important looking and checks on them.
