    Bachelor pad - bad idea?

Thanks so much for sharing, so encouraging to hear it can take months. I was worried about nighttime too but luckily was able to split their coop with mesh so they can see / lay next to each other but no fighting. it's funny the second I separate one into the pen in the yard they immediately lay...

    Bachelor pad - bad idea?

Does anyone have experience with letting ducks "work it out" on their own vs. strict separation until the chasing stops? The good news is 9 times out of 10 my jerk duck can't catch the new one so the chase stops pretty quickly, but it can happen pretty frequently. debating whether it's better to...

    Bachelor pad - bad idea?

It's been one week since we swapped our duck for a Drake for a two-Drake bachelor pad and things are going pretty well so far! We didn't think ducks came bigger than our one-eyed jumbo pekin but somehow the drake we got is bigger than him. :) and he's so so sweet. things started off almost TOO...

    Bachelor pad - bad idea?

Hello everyone. I have posted a couple times now about the struggles of having one hen and one drake (we didn't have this set-up by choice!), and our drake over mating the female (who is way way smaller than him). He is truly relentless, and to make matters worse, when they are free ranging...

    Is it mating season?!

No way, small world! Do you only have a pair, or more than two and would be willing to part with just one? We are hoping to start with adding one lady to our flock for now. Do you also have an idea of why they are losing weight? In addition to dealing with our ducks' fun mating habits, we have...

    Is it mating season?!

Thank you for the reply - this made me chuckle because i'm wondering if our mallard will be the same! she is so so flirty and almost seems like she's the instigator half the time which I totally get is her instincts kicking in, but at the same time it's like girl, your poor head feathers are...

    Is it mating season?!

Thanks so much for the great perspective and honestly not 100% positive what our long-term plan is quite yet! Hoping things might mellow down to be more manageable for the girl and separating them will only have to be an every so often ordeal. that said, we have been keeping an eye out for...

    Is it mating season?!

I'm currently not looking to get rid of either of them - they seem to be doing great with the setup I have now, keeping them separated but still able to see each other and forage and letting them out together supervised. Curious, isn't having just two drakes without any hens typically frowned...

    Is it mating season?!

Great question - I have no idea! I'm a first time duck owner and really had no idea how big of a pain their mating habits would be. Good thing they're cute and funny

    Is it mating season?!

Hi hi - curious, is November typically mating season for some of your ducks? I have a pekin drake and a female mallard, and the past week my drake has all of a sudden EXCESSIVELY been in the mood. Typically i'll go in the backyard every once in a while to see him trying to mate, but now i can't...

Can cayuga hens have curly tails? help! :)

So sorry to hear about your girl and thank you for sharing Appreciate everyone's input - I woke up to a duck with an even longer, curlier tail this morning and no egg. I think we have ourselves a drake, darn! :(

Can cayuga hens have curly tails? help! :)

Got it, then I could be completely wrong and that could have been the new duck or our pekin drake!

Can cayuga hens have curly tails? help! :)

Weirdly enough I think that might be my hen mallard - she RARELY quacks and makes this noise instead

Can cayuga hens have curly tails? help! :)

In a bit of a pickle. We wanted to introduce a bigger hen to our flock as our insanely huge pekin drake has been been fairly rough with our smaller mallard hen. We picked up the third duck from a farm that had a big flock of ducks and we picked her - a beautiful cayuga - because her "brothers"...

    Duck dragging feet

Hopefully this video that i just took works! There are other times where she doesn't drag her feet, it seems to happen when she's walking cautiously / slowly. I'm going to try to catch her tonight to get a good look at her feet
