    Duck with injured foot/ankle

Just thought I’d update this post as when searching for help with this, the outcome was often missing. So since August, Belinda has gone from strength to strength. It has taken a while, and I was making sure she ate plenty by hand feeding her for a few weeks as she seemed to have trouble...

    Duck with injured foot/ankle

Well Belinda is getting stronger by the day. The poultice has helped massively and the swelling has gone down considerably. She's back out with her small flock of girls (keeping the boys separate for a few more weeks). Didn't think she was going to make it as she seemed to be taking so long to...

    Duck with injured foot/ankle

Have had a look for the fish antibiotics, but no joy. You just can’t get this stuff in the uk by the looks of it. If I could find a vet who could treat a duck, it cost around £40 first consultation. I shall see how we go with the Epsom paste, otherwise it may be the end of the line for little...

    Duck with injured foot/ankle

Is that the same as Epsom paste for horses? I can get that on Amazon so will give it a go. Antibiotics need a trip to the vets in the UK and there aren’t any around who deal with ducks - so I’ll give the paste a go first!

    Duck with injured foot/ankle

Seem to be having a bit of year with injuries… have a little lady runner, 3 years old, who has been off her legs for a few weeks now. She’s been mostly kept in a crate, with friends in sight, for 3 weeks now and is showing some signs of recovery, but I am concerned about the swelling on her...

    Injured leg - runner duck

I will do some Epsom soaks too - I have done these before with a bucket. She won't put any weight on the injured leg, apart from when absolutely necessary, but it does seem to go down completely when she does.

    Injured leg - runner duck

Thanks for the reply. That’s reassuring that it may take a couple of weeks to heal, when they’ve had a limp before it usually only takes a few days before they start using it again, so was getting worried. Definitely no bumblefoot. She is isolated in a dog crate in the duck shed, so all the...

    Injured leg - runner duck

Hi - I've had a good look through posts on here, so apologies if this has been covered, but I have a 3 yr runner duck with an injured leg. She started limping about a week ago, and it got progressively worse so she has been crated for the last 4 days so she can rest and not be bothered by the...

Blisters and possible bumblefoot on duck

Hi - one of my ducks started limping yesterday and inspected foot and nothing. This morning he has what looks like blisters on his webbing and possibly bumblefoot. Have soaked in Epsom salts and sprayed with vetricyn. Haven’t been able to wrap it as my other half is away with work and can’t...

    Barnevelders at 6 weeks

This is Charles and Camilla - hatched on coronation day! I’m hoping they aren’t Charles and Camil - thoughts?? There hasn’t been any chest bumping behaviour yet…

    Marsbar Chick and autosexing

Actually looking at the calculator results - is it the other way round? Is the pullet barred?

    Marsbar Chick and autosexing

that’s a fancy bit of software! Looks like I may have all cockerels then - not a great start to getting a rainbow of eggs in my basket 🤦‍♀️

    Marsbar Chick and autosexing

I bought the eggs on eBay and the breeder stated they were CL females running with a marans, so I think not. They seller has a good reputation.

    Marsbar Chick and autosexing

That's what I've seen when researching. The younger chicks have the barring too though, with feathered legs. I'm wondering if the Marans was involved at all...

    Marsbar Chick and autosexing

Decided to go for some marsbar chicks for their olive eggs (cross between Cream Legbar (mum) and French Copper Marans (dad). When the first one hatched it had such clear autosexing markings of a female cream legbar, we were pretty confident it was going to be a girl, however, 3 and half weeks...
