Mystery chicken gender and breed guess??

I’m leaning towards cockerel as well

    Feed and water

I don’t know how old your chickens are, but they shouldn’t need it overnight.

What is considered old age for hens?

I think some of it depends on breed as well, so there’s not one size fits all answer.

    I’m thinking I didn’t get what was listed…

California Tan or Smokey pearl? (Only guessing those 2 bc we purchased 2 straight run in a bin with those options-basically a mix). We have 1 for sure male, suspected within 1st 24 hours. Started crowing at 2.5months. He looks mostly like a leghorn but has a few black feathers

    Roosters eating hen laying feed

I feed an All Flock feed, I have hens, rooster, pullets, cockerel, drakes, and hen (duck) so it’s easier than trying to keep them out of each other’s feed.

    Easter Eggers, Pulllet or Roo

I was thinking it looked like leakage and was leaning 1 being male. Time will tell.

What is the gender of this chicken?

That’s what I was thinking as well. I remember when my EEs were molting their tail feathers looked the same way.

6 weeks old - Rooster or Hen

Only 6 weeks old. All look male to me…

    Merging Two Flocks

If they’re only separated by chicken wire and this have been see but not touch I would assume it would be fairly easy to integrate. Also realize they will go through establishing a new pecking order amongst themselves.

    Permanent separation

Separate houses/enclosures. Our #s are way off. So we have 2 houses. 1 with male/female pair and the other with 2 males. It works well for the most part but it isn’t perfect.

Does an A-frame coop/run need a real floor or can it be open air?

Chicken wire on the bottom will eventually rust and busy especially with moving. Do you need a floor? Not necessarily. But you’ll want some sort of predator apron-wire mesh that can lay flat around the outside to prevent digging underneath.

Is it a he or a she?

This. If it’s a barred rock it looks female.

2 Barred Rocks… Hen or Roo?

Agree with above ETA: Cockerels have double barring so that it why the lighter one is male

Is it safe to have one hen with one rooster?

I had 1 hen and 1 roo together because my roos had to be separate (and to is too was a klutz/terrible at mating) and the hen had been injured and wasn’t easily welcomed back. They did fine. And everyone could see one another.

    Silkie Rooster Question - Should I or Shouldn't I?

We had 2 silkie roosters (sadly, 1 passed away a few months ago). They did fight with one another and we had to separate them. The one that passed away we almost got rid of before he was starting to attack, once I trimmed his head fluff he stopped. I think in his case it was because he couldn’t...

Is this a Black Sex Link?

I was getting male vibes too (from legs, lack of tail feathers) which is why I wondered if the breed was wrong. Since it was purchased as a pullet my daughter will be devastated (as it’s her favorite). We already have 1 roo (amost 2 year old silkie). Our other roo passed away a few months ago...

Is this a Black Sex Link?

I know I know another possible TSC surprise. I’m not new to chicks but I am new to BSL. This was purchased as a BSL Pullet on March 5 (so almost 5 weeks old now). Im including pics when I first brought it home as well as now. Is this normal coloring for a BSL? (Other chicks are Leghorn Pullet...

    Lash egg?

Exactly. Color and even texture seems off to me

    Lash egg?

When my daughter brought in eggs tonight this was with it. At first it looked like a piece of poop. It was about the size of a yolk. It wasn’t really layered like I’d expect a lash egg but I have no idea what else it could be. Not sure which hen laid it either. 1 Barred Rock 4.5 years old 2...
