Hello! Looking for a few hens to hang out with my lonely roo. Since I don't need the eggs, I'd happily consider older ladies who are slowing down in their egg production. Maybe you need some more room in your flock?
I'm in north FL, and willing to drive at least a couple hours. Thanks for...
Hey neighbors! I've recently split one of my cockerels out from the flock because he was beating up on the other cockerel. Shimmie has his own secure 8x12 bachelor pad, but he paces most of the day. I'd like to find him a few (preferably bossy) hens as companions.
Anyone looking to re-home a...
Yeah, yikes! I'd totally lock myself in with one of those, and would be in trouble. I use a sliding latch secured with a carabiner. And a hook and eye on the inside.
I recently completed my bachelor pad hoop coop, and really like it so far! It was relatively inexpensive and easy to build, and seems sturdy enough. The ventilation is great, though I'll likely have to add a tarp during our rainy months.
I plan to add a shutter to that back window so that I...
Thank you!
I was hesitating and feeling a bit guilty about moving him, but after watching him pick on *everyone* this evening, he was lucky that he only got moved. 😉 Darn testosterone.
Shimmie's new digs are almost done! Still need to build a shutter for that back window. Total overkill if it's just going to be one cockerel, but I guess that gives me options for the future, haha! (All covered with 1/2" hardware cloth, with an apron)
Thank you for your thoughts! He wouldn't be far at all from the main flock, could definitely see them.
I may try this first, and see how it goes. Was a bit tempted to put a few of the pullets in with him, but am worried he'd be too hard on them. So, we'll see!
Hi all! I'm a new chicken mom - my first little flock of 8 is 4 months old. I've ended up with 2 cockerels. One has been a bully from the start, I even had to remove him from the brooder early because he was harassing the others. He pecks the pullets on the head when they're eating and chases...
I'm a very new chicken mom (since September!) but converted a 12x12 barn/shed into a coop for my 8. I'd say go big.. the 12x12 feels close to full to me when I'm in there with the kiddos (chickens) and their gear and toys....
With my small order from Cackle, I also got 2 extra chicks - one of each breed ordered. I ended up with 4 SLW pullets, 2 EE pullets, and 2 EE cockerels. 😊
