You could be right. I might do the same for next brooder hen... limit the number of eggs. That’s the best way to do it. Poor broody she hatched almost 27 till date and still I see she has quite a number beneath her. 😓
Wow... your setup amazed me!! You made those incubators yourself??? Can’t imagine. I couldnt be successful with even a single hatch in the automatic incubator and you are cruising through home made ones!! Hats off.
I really don’t know. They are fine until a couple of days and when there is another couple hatches... the senior one would die in this manner. I couldn’t figure it out yet that why I’m rescuing and putting them in the brooder.
I guess you are a pet lover like me... my wife is not really into pets and she is always nagging over the time that I spend with the chickens and other pets!!! 😆 Anyways thanks a lot for your generous responses. I might require your expert opinion in the future as well.
I’m really bad in candling. However I trust that three or four days more and all will either hatch or would be abandoned. The other hens are locked down since around 18 days or so and thus I estimated that no new eggs were laid since then.
Noted... However, since I have recovered 12 chicks, 6 were killed and 4 died naturally, total hatched are already more than 20 and the broody hen is still setting on few more eggs. I guess around 6 or 7. Not sure.
I think I gotta find one soon... Out of the 22 hatched, I have recovered 12 and are in the brooder now, 6 were killed and 4 died naturally.
Thank you for the empathy. I think it is needed badly. 🙏🏼
You are right about staggered hatches. I initially faced problem in mingling the new ones with the old ones. So I made another brooder and put the new ones in for week then mix them with the elders.
I doubt on the mother as the last one was still breathing when I went in there and the mother hen was roaming with one chick and the moment she saw me she went broody again and took her favourite one along.
Hi everyone,
I have a total of 4 laying hens and only one got broody, sitting on around 25 eggs laid by all of them. Around 18 hatched periodically with two or three hatching in a day and the remaining are still awaited. Initially, 5 chicks were with the mother then all of a sudden two chicks...

Thanks a lot for your generous response. The device you recommended cannot be shipped to my country of residence. But I do have a Digital clock with a built in hygrometer. When I placed it inside the incubator it shows 90% humidity. Because, I live in Saudi Arabia and my house is centrally...
The humidity is showing around 25% and when the lid is opened, it increases to around 30% and more and then goes back to 25% after closing the lid. I have filled up both the water channels with no improvement in the humidity reading.
Also, the humidity display is blinking and not stationary...
