We recently gave our doe a nesting box, she is currently 28 days pregnant and should be kindling soon. Right now she’s seems more interested in chewing at the box and scratching at it instead of building a nest. Should this be a concern? Any tips?
Update!!!
November both chickens started laying eggs😊
Still unsure about the breed, pretty sure it’s a crossbreed of some sort though. We get creamy to white colored eggs about the size of a golf ball.
They both have pencil markings on their backs but one has feathery legs and the other doesn’t...
Just uploaded some more photos! One of the chicks does not have many leg feathers yet and one keeps getting more & more. The feather color is almost starting to look a bit creamy gray/tan on their heads.
From what we were told when given the chicks, they were a purebred “mini bantam”, though now we are questioning that of corse.
We are hoping it is a purebred of some sort like they said so we could possibly show them for 4H down the road.
Sadly we have no idea what the hen that laid these is like, nor do we know the egg color or anything like that.
We were given these from a lady that purchased them from an amish farm site and couldn’t take care of them.
Here is a picture of ones comb!
The second photo shows the feathers along...
They are said to have hatched around July 19th, which definitely surprises us because of how small they still are!
Our polish chickens were even bigger than these ones at a month old!
Got these chicks recently and we are wondering what breed we have? The family we got them from said they were a bantam chicken but did not classify what exact breed they are. They are 4 weeks old now and still very tiny. The feathers they have coming in are variations of gray on their wings/tail...
