I’ve been around, just not commenting lol. Idk if anyone remembers that I had a chicken roam into my yard back in June 2020 and shortly after she brought home 9 chicks. 7 were roos so I had to give them away but I kept the 2 hens and I still have them. Bought a coop then put it in a kennel...
I plan to have it slanted in hopes of the snow sliding off. Also, it won’t be attached to the kennel.
I’m in Ohio where you never know what the weather will be lol.
If anyone has an experience, good or bad, with putting up this type of roof please share.
I need a roof that will not allow rain & snow to make hardware cloth on top to sag. Was going to do similar to picture but didn’t want the kennel/coop (inside) to get too hot so I wanted to know if plastic or metal was best for the top.
Thank you
No problem, thank you for your replies.
I haven’t seen any worms.
I did see a hole with a mound of dirt beside it. I thought the girls dug it. Never thought about a mouse!
I thot it was layer but after looking realized I was wrong. Sorry about that.
How can I tell if there’s rodents ? I haven’t seen or heard anything while I’m out there day or night. I saw cat paw prints in the snow but nothing else.
They are so afraid of everything, including me that I would fear stressing them out trying to get them in the coop. They don’t even go in for mealworms anymore. I see them occasionally in the coop during the day, roughing up the pine shavings lol
I don’t know how much ventilation is needed. There’s an opening about 4” above the coop door wall & a slide vent at the back of the coop. They used to go in every night until it turned really cold. They just stopped going inside. I took the roost out of the run & they went inside the coop. I...
My momma chicken roamed into my yard last summer & never left. One day she brought home 9 baby chicks. I gave away 7 roos & kept 2 hens. The chicks are almost as big as momma now. My worry is that none seem to be eating well. I’ve tried everything. Cooked oatmeal, boiled eggs, cottage cheese. I...
I have 2 pullets about 5 months old. One chases the other but doesn’t peck at her. The chased one is smaller in size. I’ve never had chickens before. Wondering if I need to be concerned. Sometimes the smaller one sees the other one & runs away but other times they’re side by side. I’ve seen them...
I only kept 3 hens. One of the pullets is now bigger then the other one. Momma hen is not much bigger than the biggest pullet
The biggest pullet seems to be bulling the other one. She flies over & makes the other one fly away. I don’t see any wounds or blood. When I close the coop door once...
I bought a heated waterer for my hens. I have to run an extension cord out to the coop from inside my house. It’s the only way to get electric out there. Do I need to cover the cord ? If so, with what ? I plan on getting a cover for the plug.
