Vapor Barrier for Unfaced Insulation and Fastener Questions

We havent decided if the chickens will have access. We will make that decison when coop is complete and we move onto building the run. I don't like the idea of enclosing the bottom with anything because that would be a great hiding spot for racoons, fox,and skunks. Altough, I do need to protect...

Thanks again! I'm in the woods and the land naturally slopes into the creek away from the coop and run :)

Vapor Barrier for Unfaced Insulation and Fastener Questions

Thanks! What about the bottom of the coop, under the floor? my coop will be elevated 34" off the ground for easy cleaning, so I can get my wheelbarrow under to sweep out coop. Here is a pic of base. My inital thought was to attach plywood to the under side and stuff with insulation, and then add...

Vapor Barrier for Unfaced Insulation and Fastener Questions

Thanks so much! I don't see your coop or I can't find it. Would you mind sharing a couple images of the ventilation you have? Thanks in advance :) Also my roof will be 1' overhang on the 8'wall and 6'wall. It's a clope roof design. Which means that the vents on the higher side won't be...

Vapor Barrier for Unfaced Insulation and Fastener Questions

I will have 15 chickens, which 5 are leghorns. I could leave the overhang uncovered, will that be enough ventilation? Temps get quite low here, below zero is not unusal. My main concern is the vapor barrier and the insulation. I think insulation would be beneficial in my climate, although I am...

Vapor Barrier for Unfaced Insulation and Fastener Questions

Thanks again. Do you think my venting design will be enough winter venting and air flow? I am planning to add 2 vent to each side of roof overhang for a total of 4 vents. All windows will be closed in winter.

New Member: Roof questions about slope coop roof

Thanks! I will build the roof to have a 1' overhang on the 8' tall and 6' tall side. The run off will be behind the coop and the chicken run will be on the side, not under the overhang. :)

Vapor Barrier for Unfaced Insulation and Fastener Questions

It gets quite cold here in Illinois. I thought I would add insualtion to keep the warm air inside the coop. Does it seem like I will have adequate venting? I think I will. The vents in the soffit will be holes with hardware cloth stapled over the holes. Is that good?

Vapor Barrier for Unfaced Insulation and Fastener Questions

Hey there, I am building my coop and was planning on insulating the walls and under the floor with unfaced fiberglass insulation. I will seal all cracks with caulk or great stuff to ensure no critters can nest in floor or walls. I am planning on adding a plastic vapor barrier and sealing with a...

    Insulating...do you need vapor barrier?

Hey Pat, I am reading you posts about insulation and vapor barrier. I am installing unfaced insulation in the coop floor and walls. Would you recommend a plastic vapor barrier or not? I was planning on using one, but after reading everything, maybe I shouldn't. I do get extreme cold here in...

New Member: Roof questions about slope coop roof

I have already built the base. Its elevated for easy cleaning (30"tall on 4" brick) so I can sweep into my wheelbarrow. The tall side will have a full size door, 7 feet x 4 feet (2 doors that open all the way) After thinking about what everyone said, I may make that tall side 8 feet and the low...

New Member: Roof questions about slope coop roof

Thanks! Ill be using 2x6 rafters and 16" on center studs. Do you think a 2 foot difference in height on each side is enough? 8x8 coop one side 6feet tall to the other side 4feet tall. I really struggle with the roof pitch and I am building myself. 🤦‍♀️

New Member: Roof questions about slope coop roof

I am building by myself and I struggle with the roof. 8x8 is the size so how much difference in height do I need from one side to the other? I was thinking 6feet on one side and 4feet on the other. Is this enough? 2 feet difference

New Member: Roof questions about slope coop roof

New member here! I will be getting 15 baby chicks in a couple weeks and I am building a new coop! 15 chicks: Wyandottes and Leghorns. I need some help determining the structure of the sloped roof for an 8x8 coop! I was thinking 2 feet higher on one side. 6' and 4'. Would this work? Zone 5...
