I will certainly keep you posted! I'm starting the monistat tomorrow. She certainly is feeling better. She ate a little (I think she had become very weak in the henhouse) and definitely perked up. We brought her favorite friend inside, and they're sleeping in a warm room at the moment 🤞
After reading and searching, sour crop might be a better fit. The affected area is where the crop is, and she is expelling bits of liquid now and again. She's definitely perked up from eating. She does NOT look like the ascites photos of the distended lower abdomen.
Thanks for your reply! Her stool (whatever it's called in hens) cleared up, too?
Also, might it go away if there isn't an underlying organ failure/issue? Sigh.
Oh, yes, some water/liquid dripping from her beak every so often today.
I have a very young hen, less than 3 months old. She has what I assume is fluid beneath where a healthy, full crop would be. I guess ascites because it feels like a water or air bladder/balloon under the skin. Like a blister :/
I imagine we'll drain as per videos and advice here.
She's never...
We could use some! Although we had fires and runoff and mudslides... but just a little would be nice.
Correction, we did not have mudslides, but could w enough rain :(
Ok, feel very silly, I see this was written last week! (I'm new to posting in this format.) Sorry! Still we haven't had any rain in the SC Mountains this week. Again, happy belated BD :)
Hooray! And welcome ❤️.
:celebrate:highfive: Haha, sounds familiar. Happened at our house, too.
Enjoy your ducks! Will they eat ticks? That would be a boon living on the East Coast. PS, I knit too :)
Our silkie cross has been a successful mom from start to finish, and I know someone else who did exactly that. But these were eggs from the flock, and if they didn't hatch, it was sad, but not a financial issue.
Do you have a mister? We're in CA, too. W/ temperatures over 100º for a week at a time (in the redwoods!), I purchased a cheap tube mister and it's pretty crummy. Might find another.
I would pay that for a sexed silkie! We have too many silkie roos LOL. They hang out in a bachelor flock and don't make too much trouble. But we have a backyard flock, w limited residency.
I'm really sorry for your loss. We have a fondness for naked necks, and yours was a real beauty. We have bobcats often during the day. Between them and hawks, we can't free-range any longer.
