Something got in my run at some point and grabbed one on me. I’ve had issues with raccoons and rats in the past but this one is really stumping me. There is a 3 in hole in diameter going under my hardware cloth apron one foot out into the run. There is no sign of blood and no carcus. Just some...
I decided today is the day for my to take down the barriers in the look not touch areas of the coop/run after about two weeks. The little ones are 7 ish weeks old (3 pullets one cockerel). So far there has been pecking and chasing which is expected. How long before they really start to work it...
This chick is just under 5 weeks old and is visibly bigger than the others… what do you think? I thought this would be a bit early for the comb development as well, thanks for the help!
4 week old RIR this one seems suspicious to me. They were sold as pullets at tractor supply. This picture it is lifting its head more than it normally does. But it is a bit bigger than the others
After some thought, I think I’m going to add maybe a 4x4 lean to addition on to my existing coop. This way I can block it off with wire for introduction and after introduction I can take down the walls and use it as shared space. Rather than building a hutch I may as well just do a small addition.
I picked these up from my local feed store the other day and was wondering when they were born? Are they a week old? Maybe a bit more? It seems like the wings are starting to feather. This is my first time raising chicks. I started last time with pullets. Thanks!!
The coop is approximately 35 sq ft and the hutch I was just going to build something small… maybe something like 2ft by 4 ft… not exactly sure how big I should make the hutch exactly and also enclosing the bottom for a small run next to the other run
So I have 3 hens is a fairly large coop and am looking at getting some more chicks. Once the chicks are ready to go outside, what can I use to introduce the new girls to the new coop? Would keeping a rabbit hutch next to the existing coop be okay to use for introduction? The larger coop has a...
Thank you for this, it’s very helpful… my coop is 6x6 with a 14x6 run… I originally had 5 birds in this area but a raccoon took out two. After lots of hardware cloth and reinforcement I’m ready to bring more back in. I was going to wait until next spring but this opportunity just kind of popped...
Hey guys, so I know this has probably been discussed before but I currently have 3 hens and my neighbor is looking to get rid of their two as they are moving. How hard is it to integrate them together? I do have a small coop that my neighbor will give me as well that I plan on setting up...
So they got in on the roof portion of the run where I did not have any hardware cloth. I was only using a piece of lattice as the roof, everything else is predator proof besides one corner where the lattice was slightly raised. I plan on running hardware cloth across the entire roof this weekend
Hey guys I had a raccoon recently kill one of my chickens. It was my fault because the coop door was not locked. Tonight I found two raccoons trying to break into the coop so I was able to get a clean shot off on one but the other got away. Do you think the other will be back or will a gun shot...
Hey guys so I have a broody who I put some fertile eggs under. They aren’t supposed to hatch for another week but I came out to my other hens playing with a dead chick. Not sure if it hatched early or what. There is also no sign of the egg it was in unless it’s buried in my wood chips in the...
