Awww, I have baby Mallards (purchased from the store and then had their own ducklings.) That one looks less than a week or so old. It will want to be the 80-degree range (in case you have air conditioning on).
Poor lil guy must be lonely.
LOL - I've never seen my roo do that, but that's hilarious. I have, however, seen my roo run protectively towards any hen that sounds a predator alarm, which I think is very gentlemanly of him.
I'm sorry! That is hard! Not sure what happened either. I bet some of the other ppl here will help you narrow it down.
Can you move your other chickens to another coop meanwhile, just in case it is a disease?
Hey guys!
I got these four from a mystery bin at two different Tractor Supply Companies. They were too little before to guess, but I'm hoping that their breed and be identified.
Any guesses or thoughts?
I hope these two are the same breed since it looks possible I got a male and a female...
All good thoughts! I definitely have learned there is no one way. I free-range my birds, and love it, though I know others are more protective. As for going slow, out of my 8 hatched chicks, 7 are roosters. (7!!!) Plus, I am hatching Swedish Flower Hens and will likely cull any rooster I can't...
Hi Mat! I'm going to follow you. I'm really curious how chicken keeping is different in N. Whales compared to middle Tennessee. Can't wait to learn more about your flock
Thank you! It's glad to have a forum to come to. The looks I get from people when I say I am going to process my own birds . . . well, I'm sure you get the same looks. But we're the humane ones, in my opinion. Just wish I could go somewhere to learn hand's on first. Maybe I should start to...
Well, I've hatched a whole slew of Roosters. While I hoped they'd all be pullets, I knew it was an astronomical chance.
I am going to cull my first chickens this summer, so I just wanted to introduce myself and start reading the posts.
