When will my ducks start laying eggs?

My ducks hatched on March 12th and they (well at least one!) began laying yesterday, July 25th. Got a second egg today. Very exciting! I have two each of Welsh Harlequins, Cayugas, Buff Orpingtons and Blue Swedish. I will be using my eggs for cooking the same way you utilize chicken eggs (I...

    Post your Duck names!

Since my chickens are all named after French women, I decided to name all of the ducks after Italian women...they are: Violetta, Rosetta, Luisa, Gioia, Paola, Annalisa, Francesca, Serafina. Two each of Cayuga, Welsh Harlequin, Buff Orpington & Blue Swedish.

    wild duck visitors – concerns

Ever since I've moved my eight female ducks outside (they were born in March) I've had three "bachelor" Mallards flying over our yard a couple of times a week. I have been waiting for them to actually land some day, but so far that has not happened. We'll see about that. I'm curious as to how...

I live in Colorado and ordered from Metzer in March. I went to our local post office and picked up the box of eight ducklings at 6:00 a.m.! They were all healthy and happy and in fine shape. I am happy I ordered the grow-gel because it was all eaten by the time they arrived. They are thriving...

Now that they are a year old I give them...

Treats question...anyone else have picky chickens???

You know, mine won't eat carrots at all...I sometimes think that it is a food "color" issue. Anything green or red is fair game, but an odd color is suspect. They wouldn't eat purple cabbage for the longest time, but really liked green cabbage heads cut into quarters and left for the pecking!

What to do with a dominant, feather-pecking, bossy hen?

Hi everyone, I'd like some advice on how to handle a very bossy, almost mean chicken. I have seven hens, no rooster. They are all a year old. They have a huge hen house and an even larger yard (about 30' x 75') so overcrowding is not the issue. My bossy hen is an Australorp, one of two of that...
